Moon Day - the Day of Remembering and Feeling....  There are minor magickal energies to for domestic power....

Samhain Eve - As the biggest festival of the Witches' year it really is one to share with others if at all possible.
In many Covens everyone attends this Sabbat, including those from Daughter Covens. Around this time there are sometimes conferences and other open functions. However, not everyone is able to find a gathering to attend, yet they still wish to celebrate Samhain. There are many focuses to choose for this festival, like the Wild Hunt, the formation of light and dark Circles, seeking the wisdom of the Crone, and remembrance of loved ones who have departed. These can be undertaken individually or combined in a larger celebration.
Take a Cauldron or largish dark colored bowl and fill it with water. Add several drops of black ink to create a Dark Mirror. Place it in such a way that the Moon is reflected in its surface, or light a candle which will do likewise. Also, beside the Cauldron burn an incense containing Mugwort and Sandalwood. Extinguish all lights in the house or room, except the candle. Kneel before the Cauldron and visualize the Goddess as Crone and the God as Leader of the Wild Hunt. When you are ready, place 9 drops of silver ink in the center of the water saying, "I call upon the Wise One and the Leader of the Wild Hunt to give aid to my sight. As I drop this silver into the blackness may She give to me the gift of sight. Blessed Be!"  With the forefinger of your right hand (left, if you are left handed) swirl the waters gently 3 times and then gaze into the depths to ask your questions.
[From The Real Witches' Year by Kate West]

"Holy night of Great Sabbat
honor those
by whom we were taught
to look within and know without
no harm be done,
of that no doubt."

Threshold Invocation
for the Festivel of Samhain
(to be said at the front door of the house on the
eve of Samhain, Oct. 31st in evening.)

Grandmother Wisdom, open the door,
Grandfather Counsel, come you in.
Let there be welcome to the ancient lore,
Let there be welcome to the Winter of the Year.
Under crystal skies you will arrive
May the blessed time of Samhain
Clarify the soul of all beings,
Bringing joy and wisdom to revelation.
From the depths to the heights,
From the heights to the depths,
In the cave of every soul."
[From Celtic Devotional by Caitlin Matthews]

Samhain

The Winter quarter of Samhain brings
the gifts of restoration and renewal, as
the cold weather closes in, so the soul is led
to more reflective depths. It is traditionally
associated with the remembrance of the
ancestors, with the coming of death and
the conception of new life.  In the human growth
cycle, Samhain corresponds to the period of
old age when wisdom, freedom of spirit and
clarity are experienced. Samhain is a good
time to celebrate the lives of all wise elders, all
those whose actions and ideas have brought
resolution and peace, all holy ones whose sacrifice
have brought new life and opened spiritual
thresholds to all.

Thor's Day - Jupiter Day - the Day of Vision, Spiritual Insight and Expansion......  there are minor magickal energies today for networking.

Reed Month Commences - The Reed of the Celts has counterparts in other cultures; for the Romans it was flax, and for the Egyptians, Papyrus.  In all cases it is very much a plant with many uses making anything from thatch to weaving, from paper to musical instruments. It was also used in making arrows and to heal wounds caused by them. It is a plant strongly linked to water, being sometimes called the Water-Elder. It is also associated with the pathway between the worlds. Indeed it is thought that growing the plant in, or very close to the house was to open the door to death. The Greeks considered the Reed sacred to Pan; Pan Pipes being made from a series of Reed tubes ties together, which could be played to invoke him. However, this is not something which should be done lightly as Pam as a deity who can bring mischief and the uncertain. They also considered it to be strongly linked to Hecate, and placed Reeds at Her shrines.
The Reed is associated with willpower, creativity, imagination, insight and love. Weave a circle from Reeds and keep it by you when you need help with new projects or new ideas. Wearing a ring or bracelet of Reed will help strengthen your willpower. Whenever you gather Reeds you should ensure that make an offering lest you offend the spirits which dwell within the Reed beds. It is also a good idea to ensure that you do not gather Reeds at times when waterfowl and other species are using the beds to raise their young.

New Moon - The age of the Moon is 0 to one days. The moon is 0 -45 degr4es directly ahead of the sun, rises at dawn and sets at sunset. Magick should be performed between dawn and sunset. A New Moon's power may be embryonic, you can be assured that the power of any spell cast at this time will continue to increase in power as time goes on. Working with Sun Goddesses such as Sekhmet, Vesta or Heartha or the God Ra will increase power. Work for self improvement, gardening, careers, romance.
The New Moon (or Dark Moon) is astrologically in conjunction with the Sun. Because the Sun's light overpowers the nearby Moon in the day, and the Moon is on the other side of the Earth with the Sun at night, She is not visible in the sky at all.  During a lunar cycle look into the sky (As above, so below) and observe which phase the Moon is in. Then you will know where you are in the 'growth' cycle of each lunar month. Those who are born during a New Moon phase are impulsive, passionate, and intuitive. They are risk takers and pioneers. The New Moon is like a SEED planted in the Earth. We cannot see Her but She is ready to grow, full of potential and energy for Her new journey.

Moon in Scorpio - With Moon in Scorpio, dig deep. Scorpio weaves the visible and invisible worlds together. We see through and into the roots. Direct this energy away from obsession and towards creation. Sexuality can be potent, musky. The Moon in Scorpio gives us attitude, and brings out our primal side; it sharpens our curiosity and our edges, our focus to the point of obsession. Fluff doesn't cut it; get real or let it go; honor privacy, don't crowd. The moon's transit through Scorpio is a time of death and rebirth (not necessarily physical death), intensity, extremes and heightened sensitivity. It is good for focusing, being sexual and doing psychic work because of the deep emotions and desires Scorpio brings.
Patriarchal astrology paints a grim picture indeed of the Scorpio transit. Since sensitivity is heightened, you find yourself feeling the Goddess most intensely, especially the Dark or Crone Goddesses. During a Scorpio transit opinions and feelings are intense and penetrating. Strong desires, especially sexual yearnings, run deep with emotions at their peak.
Emotional resentments from the past can surface and block your heightened creative energy, so fight urges to be suspicious, secretive and moody. This is a time of regeneration and cleaning out of emotional debris from the previous month - great time to clear out everything to start a new lunar cycle. There is great energy to complete things and focus on certain areas that you have found yourself too scattered to deal with in the previous cycle. Although Scorpio is a fixed sign, it is really about metamorphosis - the most profound kind of change. Nothing can stop Scorpionic transformation once it is started. Moon in Scorpio is the best time to work magick involving sexual matters, power, psychic growth, secrets and fundamental transformations. Healing rituals for ailments of the reproductive organs are also done during this period of time. Those born under a Scorpio Moon sign are intense, fiercely curious, and need to create solitude with healthy boundaries rather than isolation.

Balsamic Moon - The Balsamic Moon (or waning Crescent moon) rises before dawn and set midafternoon. She is the last sliver of Moon seen in the eastern sky in the dawn and in the very early morning. The Balsamic Moon is the COMPOST phase, when the nutrients remain in the soil, providing nourishment for the next new seed. This is the ending of one cycle and the beginning of another. Keywords for the Balsamic phase are: transition, release, transformation, renewal, and purify. It is the phase in a cycle when you must let go of everything you have been working on that does not deal with current cycle issues. During this phase you reflect on the passing cycle and prepare for the new. Trust in renewal. It is important to separate from others now so that you can clear the intellect of negativity. LET GO. Become still and meditate. For those born during a Balsamic moon phase they possess the potential to be wise, insightful, understanding and patient. They are prophetic and unique.

Moon in Libra - The Moon in Libra opens our sociability, brings a friendly, egalitarian vibe and encourages us to connect. This transit is a time to seek justice, romance, meet, approach, create and beautify, find our core balance and balance our needs with others. This transit concerns cooperation, harmony, focus on relationships, and fine artistic pursuits. All partnership activity will be heightened during this moon transit. If you're not in a relationship beware of superficial bonding just to ease the pain of alomess Moon in Libra is the best time to work magic involving artistic work, justice, court
cases, partnerships and unions, mental stimulation and karmic, spiritual or emotional balance. Healing rituals for ailments of the lower back or kidneys are also done during this period of time. Those born under a Libra Moon sign are peacemakers, but need to remember to keep themselves in the equation. They see the beauty and seek fairness, and help us understand one another.

Moon Day - the Day of Remembering and Feeling...... there are minor magickal energies today for resolving domestic issues..

Sun in Scorpio - Scorpio is one of the Water signs, reflecting the emotions, the world of intangible, sensitivity, psychism, perception and mysticism. It is also one of the Fixed signs, bringing stability, stubbornness, resilience and persistence.
Those born under Scorpio are generally self-repressive, emotional, intuitive, steadfast and intense.
The typical Scorpio can be quite secretive, keeping personal affairs and feelings hidden from those around them. Outwardly they may appear fearless with a strong desire to succeed. They can purposeful and dynamic. They are perceptive about others and their personal magnetism makes them good at persistent probing to get to the basis of things. Their perceptiveness allows them to understand and comfort others in times of difficulty, and they are unlikely to violate a confidence. On the negative side their intense feelings can make them highly caustic and scornful when angered or crossed in any way. They can be highly jealous, destructive, stubborn, suspicious and even vindictive.
Those born under this Sign should utilize their ability to reason while being aware of their negative qualities. They should be aware that relationships only flourish if both parties can share their thoughts and feelings. Those of other signs will also find this a good time to work on psychic abilities.

Moon in Leo - The Moon in Leo illuminates our extroverted sides; we brim with generosity but can get stuck in our own perspective. This transit is a time: to shine,  express, dramatize, celebrate, create, appreciate, stage, reach out and be generous with our attention; watch assumptions and do not push the stubborn. During this moon transit we have the guts to be visible and bring culture to life. Dramatic happenings, especially concerning emotions, being the center of attention, exuberance, vitality and working with patriarchal issues are all hallmarks of the Leo Moon transit. It's high drama with moon in Leo as she steps out onto the stage to entertain us once again. You will probably want to act out the 'drama queen' part of yourself or just be romantic. This transit is a time of vital energy, affection and romance. Everyone is recognized for her particular Goddess within. Enjoy the warmth of kindness and generosity, excitement and exuberance, parties and celebrations. You will want to spend money during Leo.  It will be hard to recognize limits in a Leo moon transit. It is also a time for power issues to erupt. Who will be the center of attention? Ambition and independent leadership are important issues. Leo has great pride which is evident now. As the moon moves to Virgo, (Saturday morning), the ambitious energy of Leo becomes unassuming.  Moon in Leo is the best time to work magick involving authority, power over others, courage, fertility or childbirth. Healing rituals for ailments of the upper back, spine or heart are also done during this period of time.  Those born with a Leo Moon sign can fill a room with personality and make the most of any situation, but may need to learn to honor the quiet, the mundane or another's reality.

Your Moon Sign:

The Moon's placement at our birth describes our relation to our home soul, family and emotional lineage; it symbolizes our inner spiritual river and our lifetime mode of operation.  Your Moon sign describes the automatic, instinctual part of you. It 'reflects' the way you react when you aren't thinking, your knee-jerk responses, your habits, what makes you feel at home, your 'comfort zone'. It is also related to the body,  in the sense that the body reacts to our emotions and our sense of security or safety. So the Moon is connected to health, or the kinds of things we need to stay healthy, the therapies to which we respond, the food we like, and so on. The subconscious mind is linked to the Moon, our dreams and most importantly, our intuitions. Your Moon sign determines what sort of intuitions you have and how you are likely to register them and respond to them.
The Moon sign is powerful in small children who are still at the very instinctual stage, and this is especially in evidence before they can talk clearly. For instance, a baby with Moon in Sagittarius may be fretful if it cannot stretch and kick, whereas one with Moon in Virgo may get quickly distressed if it is wet or dirty. A little on with Moon in Taurus may not be able to tolerate the slightest hunger pang. However, our Moon sign isn't something we 'grow out of' .  It is true that the influence of our Moon sign can become overlaid by other developing characteristics, but it is always there and continues to be in evidence in domestic situation with our family and close friends, or indeed at any time when we are relaxed or vulnerable.
Our lunar nature is often playful and instinctual and we may have been taught to suppress it. However, if we are to be whole people in tune with our own needs and able to access the natural wisdom of our intuitions, we need to respect the Moon. Reconnection with our lunar natures can make us healthy, wealthy and wise!.....

Thor's Day - Jupiter Day - the Day of Vision, Spiritual Insight and Expansion...

The Feast of Samhain -

Because the climate of the seasons was once so difficult to predict, Samhain was a celebration of bounty but also a time of fear. No matter how much preparation was done, one could never be sure what was to come or whether the provisions for winter would be sufficient. Oftentimes, an early frost was interpreted as otherworldly spirits blighting the vegetation with their breath. This type of  'weather as omen' belief may have given rise to the notion of dead spirits cavorting about and faeries plotting to steal away human beings on Samhain night.
In faerie lore, Samhain is the night of the 'wild hunt', a notorious and rambunctious ride when scores of faeries come racing out from within their hollow hills to wreak havoc throughout the towns. Meandering mortals avoided transversing near the sidhe, or fairy mounds out of fear of abduction. And if one did venture out during the wild hunt, it was only under the auspices of a protective charm, such as salt or iron. Turning one's clothing inside out was another way to protect against faerie mischief. Faerie lore claims that a stone with a natural hole through it, dry but found near water, would enable the wearer to enter the faerie realm and return from it unharmed. This type of amulet was also believed to protect horses from faerie mischief and theft.
Perhaps it was the practice of wearing charms for protection that led Samhain to become a night for divination. Many different methods of divination were used by the Celts in order for young girls to learn the name of a future husband. Others sought to get a glimpse of the future and obtain information about a future occupation. Some of the techniques they used included burning nuts in the hearth fire and making assumptions based upon which nuts exploded and which did not; pouring molten lead into cool water, then  interpreting the shapes that formed in order to get clues about a future occupation; and the baking of soddag valloo, or 'dumb cakes', a Manx Gaelic custom involving cakes, which were baked directly on top of the embers of the fire. Eating the cake in silence was thought to encourage prophetic dreams in young women seeking to learn the identity of their future husbands, provided they left the room without turning their backs on the fire. Babies born on Samhain were thought to possess divinatory power and were often treated with special respect as well as fear.
Samhain is also the time when rituals were held to honor the dead. Benevolent spirits were beckoned and tempted with favorite foods that they enjoyed during life. Malevolent spirits were banished and kept away. The origin of the Jack o' lantern is rooted in the belief of wandering spirits and ghosts. The lantern's glow was meant as a beacon for the spirits of the dearly departed, while the terrible faces carved therein were meant to frighten away any spirit with ill intentions.

Last Quarter Moon - The moon is 21 to 24.5 days from the New Moon. It is also 270-315 degrees ahead of the sun. The crescent shape turns westward, to the realm of death. The power of the moon is now waning, being drawn inside for later use. Cast spells now requiring resolution or for something to
be concluded. The waning moon is used for banishing magick, for ridding oneself of addictions, illness or negativity.  The Last Quarter moon (or waning half) rises around midnight and sets around noon. Astrologically the moon is square to the Sun. She is visible from the time she rises until she sets. The Last Quarter is the HARVEST phase - the moon plant gives her life so that others may continue theirs.
Those born in a Last Quarter phase have p0owerful internal lives of reflection and transformation. They can assume different roles while balancing their internal and external worlds.

Moon in Cancer - The Moon in Cancer deepens our feelings; our moods are stormy and vast, our hunger and desire to feed others sharpens. We protect our own, nest in our cave, need to know we're safe. Hunger grows, but for more than food. This transit is a time to nest, comfort, secure and dive deep into feelings. During a moon Cancer transit our feelings take the lead. Cancer encourages the wisdom rising out of our oceanic unconscious through moods and feelings. Ground in the magick of our home as a temple. Ask what needs protecting and feeding. Moon in Cancer brings heightened sensitivity, the desire to nurture, and the need to create a home. Because of the home-orientation, coming from a deep-seated need for security, there is a greater interest in food and its preparation. This can easily lead to the tendency to food-binge. Cancer is the home of the moon, sensitive planet of emotions, so feelings are easily hurt, especially by personal criticism.  Moon in Cancer is the best time to work magick for home and domestic life. Healing rituals for ailments of the chest or stomach are also done during this period of time. Those born with a Cancer Moon sign search for what nurtures them and the world. They may need to learn to carry their security with them. They respect our deepest feelings and ease our past fears.

Moon Day - the Day of Remembering and Feeling ...... there are minor magickal energies for releasing unwanted emotions.

Samhain  - A Year Ends, A Year Begins

The word Samhain in Irish means 'summer end.' Samhain represents the third and final harvest of the year. This is when the remaining produce is stored to provide nourishment during the coming winter. In addition to the storing of winter provisions, Samhain had agricultural significance in other ways. In Ireland it was the day on which pigs were killed and when cattle moved from the mountains into protected pastures for the winter.
The identification of Samhain with the beginning of the New Year comes from the Celtic tradition of each day beginning at sundown. Just as each sabbat festivel begins on the eve of the celebrated day, so too does the year begin with the advent of winter. In addition to archeology, early Irish accounts suggest that Samhain was also a festival when alcoholic beverages were consumed. Several great legends that include references to intoxication are all said to have occurred on Samhain. On Samhain night it is believed that the dead walk and that faries cavort, causing both magic and mayhem. Samhain is the time of Cailleach, the crone who rules the winter season. Offerings and sacrifices were made in her honor.

Disseminating Moon - During this phase the moon's age is 17.5 to 21 days old. The moon rises mid-evening and sets mid-morning. The time of the souls (3AM) would be the midpoint here. Banishing work starts now. Working should focus upon addiction, decisions, divorce, emotions and stress and protection.  The disseminating moon is the waning full moon getting visibly smaller. She is visible from the time she rises almost until she sets. As we go into the darkening phase of the disseminating moon, we get the FRUIT of the moon plant's life cycle - the fruits of wisdom and experience. For those who were born during this moon phase they feel their life must have meaning, purpose. They enjoy sharing their ideas with others.

Sun Day - the Day of Intent, Creation and Renewal .... there are minor magickal energies today for doing rites/spells to relieve stress.

Harvesting:

Raw wind chafes my face, stings my reddening cheeks. Earth warms roots while air brittles yellowing leaves. Light diminishes.... I gather and gather and gather.
Can I name a single time as harvest? Spring brings seedling lettuce, early chives, wild morels. Early summer, luxuriance of strawberries, authority of sorrel, the green snap of peas. High summer, and the trickle swells to a torrent that cascades as fall approaches and everything ripens all at once. Flying seeds cloud the air.  The roadsides are lush with seedheads. Everywhere promises, promises.
I fall behind. Inevitably. Beans split open to seed themselves. In leafy shadow, squashes swell huge and green. Even crows and raccoons cannot steal all the tomatoes. In the crowded garden, I gather and gather.
In a delirium of plenty, boundaries disappear. Richness, richness: velvet colors, taste of smoke, sounds soft as alderblow.  Effortless work. The season of the heart. Death everywhere, feeding life. Life everywhere.
I stand for a moment, head bent back, listening to the last call of the geese as they skein southwards. Near me, a squirrel falls silent. Then I lift my rake, the squirrel chatters, and gathering begins again.
Abundance and choice. Abundance is choice. The cellar is full. Life is full. There is no need for more.
Then a row of overlooked of peppers calls out. A stand of rose hips. A last flush of strawberries, tiny, deeply sweet.
When the white day comes when all seems done, carrots still crispen secretly under straw, onions sharpen, sage gleams silver.
      Harvest is over
Harvest is never done.

Moon in Gemini - The Moon in Gemini wakes us up; we lose our concentration but quicken our communication. The conversation sparkles, our thinking broadens but doesn't deepen. This transit is the time to network, investigate, translate, brainstorm, meditate, prune, edit, explain and broadcast. The Moon in Gemini quickens our nervous system. Build a web of understanding - network and absorb new information. This is a time of communication and other means of expression, freedom, adaptability, short journeys, reading or writing, desire for variety and having more than one thing going at once.  You feel talkative and might want to work with your hands during this moon transit in Gemini.  Moon in Gemini is the best time to work magick for good communication, change of residence, writing, public relations, and travel. Healing rituals for ailments of the shoulders, arms, hands, or lungs are also done during this period of time.  Those born under a Gemini moon sign can talk to anyone, think fast, multi-task, shift moods with grace, but need to choose depth and focus. The moon will be in this 'airy' sign until Monday evening.

Moon in Taurus - The Moon in Taurus grounds us and slows us down  after the fiery energies of Aries during the Full Moon's powerful feelings.  It awakens our sensual nature and stubbornness,  and helps us dig deeper roots. This transit is a time to cultivate relationships and ideas, make love, nurture, and take a stand.  It is also a time to cultivate our material resources, our homes, and our bodies. The forceful, forward movement of Aries has become calm and solid and patient. There is a desire to protect material goods and strong need for financial security.  Now is a good time to continue or finish projects. Taurus gives attention to order and detail. Emotionally there is great stubbornness but also great sensitivity to others. The Moon in Taurus is the best time to work magick for love, real estate, material acquisitions, and money. Healing rituals for ailments of the throat, neck, and ears are also dome during this period of time. Those born under a Taurus Moon sign root deeply and change slowly; they collect, touch. support and see the sacred in the world of matter. Steadily they loan their strength to others, but may need to learn the beauty in change.

Sun Day - this is the Day of Intent, Creation and Renewal ....

John Lennon's birthday -

On October 9th, 1940, John Winston Lennon was born to the sound of Hitler's bombs raining down on the city of Liverpool, England. John's mother, Julia, gave John the middle name Winston in tribute to Prime Minister Winston Churchill.

Sadly, on December 8th, 1980, at 10:50 p.m., in New York City, John Lennon was shot five times by 25 year-old assassin Mark David Chapman.

He would have been 71 today.

Here are a few links to tributes to him:

Gibbous Moon phase - The moon is now 8 - 14 days old from the New Moon and at 135-180 degrees ahead of the sun. This is the time for patience and for drawing up energy for the coming full moon. The Gibbous Moon rises midafternoon and sets before dawn. She is bulging Moon getting ready to be full, visible soon after she rises until she sets. The Gibbous Moon is the BUD of the moon plant, the pulse of life tightly wrapped, wanting to expand. For those born in a Gibbous moon phase find their talents lie in the ability to refine, organize and purify. They are seekers, utilizing spiritual tools as guides on their paths.

Moon in Pisces - The Moon in Pisces reveal our permeability. We dream, and need to ground our dreams.  We care, but can become overwhelmed by our awareness unless we feel spirit working though us. This transit is a time to imagine, share, sense, meditate, nurture, soak, and find constructive ways to be sensitive. With Moon in Pisces we feel the world with compassion, heightened senses and strong imaginations. We need quiet time in the temple or back under our covers to deal with sensory overload.
This is a transit to vision, listen to inner voices, all creative juices to flow and touch each other with new awareness. During Moon in Pisces emotional life is more introverted, intuition is at its height and psychic energy is powerful. You are now able to get in touch with your deepest self, but it can also be a time of vagueness, unclarity and uncertainty. Pisces is about endings as a result of internal processing. Moon in Pisces is the best time to work magick involving dreamwork, clairvoyance, telepathy, music, and the creative arts. Healing rituals for ailments of the feet or lymph glands are also done at this time.
Those born under a Pisces moon sign have extra perceptions and need to build the strength (not defense) to match. They are sensitive, intuitive, responsive and compassionate; your dreams are a gift.

Thor's Day - Jupiter Day - the Day of Vision, Spiritual Insight and Expansion ...... again today we are
in two Air signs - Libra for the Sun and Aquarius for the Moon - so there are Major magical energies for Networking and minor magickal energies for working for good luck.

Apples - The apple appears in the lore surrounding many beliefs.  The Norse Gods were said to eat Apples from a tree in the garden of Asgard to retain their youth and strength. The Christians believe that the fruit eaten in the Garden of Eden was an Apple. The Greek God Melanion (also know as Hippomenes) used Apples to win a race against Atlanta and thereby make her his wife. The Greeks also regarded Apples as one of the fruits of Diana and these was continued by the Romans in respect of Venus. The Celts held that a branch laden with Apples would enable a person to visit the underworld, and for this reason Apples often appear on the altar on Samhain. If you cut an Apple open across the center you will find that the core forms a five-pointed star similar to the Pentacle.
Apples are used in spells for love, healing, and as cider to encourage growth in the garden. Sharing an Apple which you have jointly consecrated with your partner will ensure a happy relationship, and this should be repeated at every New Moon. To encourage growth in the garden sprinkle cider (preferably unsweetened) onto the soil after it has been turned over. To drive out illness cut an Apple into 3 parts, rub them all over and bury the pieces separately. 'An apple a day keeps the doctor away' has some truth, and as eating Apples helps the liver and digestive system. Drinking Apple juice or rough cider also prevents the formation of stones. And eating one as the last thing at night is said to cure sleeplessness.

Moon in Aquarius - The Moon in Aquarius connects us to our community, reminds us that we are in this together. It asks us to make sure we walk our talk and integrate our philosophy with our politics. We abstract, communicate and work the crowd, but may be less intimate. The Moon in Aquarius expands our circles and offers the magic of collaborations; spirit and politics weave together. We can get too farsighted now and need to stay aware of others' feelings. Let go of assumptions and find new, unusual allied. This transit is a time to gather plants, mulch, prune and talk to your garden.  This is also a transit of dealing with facts, organizing, political issues, there is a feeling wanting to save the world through social action, of connecting with others in social situations, scientific pursuits, detachment and the need to come and go without restriction.
Aquarius Moon's monthly transit is a dramatic mood change. Where Capricorn values tradition and caution, Aquarius indicates anything new, innovative, different or unconventional. Extremes of behavior occur during this moon, especially extremes of optimism and pessimism. Women feel the need to be friendly and social but don't want to be too personal or go too deep. Aquarius Moon can bring us feelings of wanting to be detached or rational rather than emotional and make changes only when logical to do so.  Moon in Aquarius is the best time to work magick involving science, freedom, creative expression, problem-solving, extrasensory abilities, friendship and the breaking of bad habits or unhealthy addictions. Healing rituals for ailments of the calves, ankles, or blood or also done at this time. Those born under an Aquarius moon sign are far sighted with a gentle stubbornness; they understand group dynamics and may be more aware in the family, tribe, community than they are in their most intimate relationships.

Woden's Day - Mercury Day - the Day of Communication and Connection.....  there are Major Magickal energies today for Attraction Skills and One on One Negotiations and there are minor Magickal energies for divination, and elemental magick.

G-Gort - Ivy (Hedera helix, English Ivy) from the book The Ogham and The Universal Truth of the Trees by Suzanne La Cour and Dean Montalbano.....

Keywords: Friendship, Loyalty, Fidelity, Faith, Eternal Life, Development, Achievement, Mentoring, and Fostering
Magical Associations: Protection, Healing, Good Luck, Love.....   Ivy is a woman's plant and as such may be worn by women for good luck. Planted on the border of a property, or up against the home, Ivy protects the residents against negativity and averts disaster. Also it was believed that the Ivy would help protect the house from both physical and magical harm.  Ivy was often used in love charms, particularly those to ensure the fidelity and loyalty. It is a clinging and everlasting friendship, eternally alive.

Gort has often been associated with blacksmiths and is thought of as a plant of physical and mental development. It grows slowly, long and strong, often overtaking larger trees, buildings, walls and hills. It looks fragile, but can become very thick and woody. Ivy has been used to represent the dragon gnawing at the roots of the Universal or World Tree. It is a reminder of the strength to be found even in low places and the effect if used persistently against those who may be considered stronger.

One English custom bound the final sheaf of grain with Ivy; this was called the Ivy Girl who was believed to be in combat with the Holly Boy ..... (representing) a combat between the half of the year presided over by the Goddess (waxing) and the half ruled by the God (waning). The pairing of the Holly with the Ivy at Yule is symbolic of this same struggle for balance at the waning and waxing of the Sun.

First Quarter Moon - The age of the moon is 6 to 7 days after the New Moon and the moon is 90-135 degrees ahead of the sun, it rises at noon and sets at midnight. Sunset is the prime time for the waxing Moon. From the time a new moon is sighted until it reaches the full, the cycle is known as a waxing moon. The lunar power constantly increases during this time and as such, it's an ideal time to cast a spell requiring the fulfillment of a request. The waxing moon is for constructive magick, such as love, wealth, success, courage, friendship, luck or health, The First Quarter Moon (or waxing half Moon) is square to the Sun. She is visible from the time she rises until she sets. The First Quarter Moon is the GROWTH phase of the moon plant. Roots go deeper, stems shoot up and leaves form as she creates a new strong body. Keywords for the First Quarter phase are: action, expression, growth and breaking away. It is the time in a lunar cycle to take the initial action necessary to achieve your goal by expressing your needs and desires. FEEL & MOVE. Make phone calls. Write letters. Dance. Act now.
Those who are born during a First Quarter phase live a full active life - old structures are cleared away providing room for new development.

Moon in Capricorn - The Moon in Capricorn inspires our ambitions for good or ill, we just have to be gentle on our soul if we're not these yet. Lead and manage, but do not manipulate or control. This is a time to: build, dig, organize, exercise discipline, work on foundations, make practical progress on a dream or goals. Moon in Capricorn brings planning magick and takes your ideas, giving them form and hope. We can tap int the inner wisewoman - ask how form, ritual, organization or tradition can serve. This transit concerns leadership issues, security, responsibilities, the need to be recognized, desire to create environments, time to take care of business, deal with alternative healing for your body and intensification of your powers of concentration. After Sagittarius expansiveness, now we feel contraction and a time to pay attention to our needs for security, duties, obligations, drives and ambitions. Capricorn brings a desire to create environments and energy is slowed down. Be careful to avoid insensitivity to others, and stay out of negative and pessimistic mind sets that will only drag you down. Take this moon transit to deal with your material plane, especially if you have neglected it too long. Do nontraditional healing as Capricorn is the sign of the Medicine Womon. Moon in Capricorn is the best time to work magick for organization, ambition, recognition, career, and political matters. Healing rituals for the knees, bones, teeth and skin are also done at this time. Those born under Capricorn Moon sign have a strong work ethic, competence, and leadership capacities, but may need to learn to love themselves holding still.

Waxing Crescent Moon - I've missed several days of posting and here is what has been going on with the moon - the New Moon happened Tuesday of this week -  September 27th and it was in the zodiac sign of Libra which of course was the Sun's sign too. Then moon went v/c Wednesday, and on Thursday entered the Fixed Water sign of Scorpio and went v/c on Friday and entered the Waxing Crescent phase at 11:42AM EDST. The waxing Crescent Moon is usually 1 to 5 days after the New Moon and the moon is 45-90 degrees ahead of the sun during this phase. The crescent faces East the gates of rebirth. The moon will rise midmorning and sets after sunset. The crescent's greatest strength is at the midpoint. This phase is a time to do work for animals, business, change, emotions and matriarchal strength. This phase of the moon is the first visible sliver of the Moon seen in the western sky in the late afternoon and early evening. The Crescent Moon is the SPROUT. The seed of the Moon Plant has broken through the earth and reach up as she ventures from the dark, moist earth she has known. Keywords for the Crescent Moon phase are: expansion, growth, struggle, and opportunity. It is the time in a lunar cycle that you gather the wisdom learned in the New phase and communicate your intention to move forward. Light a candle. Write or read an affirmation. LISTEN & ABSORB. Commit to your goals for this lunar cycle. Those born during a Waxing Crescent phase  must break from the past to create their own destiny.

Moon in Sagittarius - The moon energy of a Sagittarius transit gets us moving; it brings cheerful impatience and refreshing honesty. We need wide open minds, souls, and attitudes, but can't sit still. This transit is a time to: get honest, forgive, dance, hike, explore and connect to the natural world. A Sagittarius transit brings out our inner-Artemis; we need to roam, to explore in body and in soul. Our curiosity intensifies. Check out untraveled territory and connect with the organic world. Have a long talk with the animals in your garden. The restless, enthusiastic Sagittarius loves adventure, change and motion. The moon in this sign is a time for philosophy, metaphysics, travelling, studying, and freedom from responsibility.
Sagittarius brings the need to feel free of restrictions, and to be spontaneous. Her restless and independent nature wishes to explore and warm and friendly vibes make it a good time for seeing new
places, encountering different people and relating to a changing environment.  Moon in Sagittarius is the best time to work magick for publications, legal matters, travel, and truth. Healing rituals for ailments of the liver, thighs or hips are also done at this time.  Those born under a Sagittarius moon sign are funny, restless, freedom-loving, and direct; they are global citizens but also need to look for answers at home. They accept the wild in all sentient beings.

Saturn's Day - the Day of Manifestation and Structure, Assessment and Responsibility - Foundation Day.

Ivy Month - The Celts considered the Ivy a 'tree' of power, able to overcome even the mighty Oak because it can bind, constrict, and strangle.
It is also a tree of warning:dreams, visions of it or even large amounts in your area indicate that you may be taking a wrong path or comtemplating a wrong direction in life, and it is time to review your life and motivations, and perhaps seek a new direction. It is a plant of persistence, not just for the ancient Celts. A quaint 19th-century story tells of an Ivy in Oxford which penetrated the wall of a wine cellar, removed the cork from a bottle of port and drank the contents. The bottle was later found congested with the roots of the plant.
Ivy leaves made up the wreath of Roman God Bacchus and were often hung outside inns to advertise their trade. It was thought that wearing a circle of Ivy around the head would prevent intoxication. Drinking from a bowl of Ivy wood was said to be a cure for drunkenness. A wreath of Ivy was given to newly weds as a symbol of fidelity. A young girl would carry an Ivy leaf in order to meet her future husband. Should a man gather 10 Ivy leaves at Halloween, discard one and sleep with other 9 under his pillow he will dream of his future love. To dream of spirits, place an Ivy leaf on each corner of your pillow. Ivy is magically linked with Holly and it used to be forbidden to bring Ivy into a church because of the Pagan associations.
