Sun Day - the Day of Intent, Creation and Renewal ...... There are Major magickal energies for rites of Ambition and Success.

Lughnasadh Rite - Lammas Eve

Not only is this the festival of the first of the three harvest feasts, but it is also the feast of the Sacrifical King.......

There are many things which can be symbolically 'slain' at this time: a harvest loaf, which can broken up, or a Corn King which can have stalks, or bunches of stalks, removed until he is no more. If you are working alone, a gold candle can take the place of a more complex sacrifice. As with all the Sabbats it is important to reflect balance in your Rites, so you should also make an offering wine in thanks to the Old Gods and the Land.
If it is at all possible, perform your Rites outside. Start by thinking of all the things that have been given to you in the past season, and for each take a part of your sacrificial 'victim' and say "I give thanks to the Old Gods for ....... (name it), Blessed Be."  If there is a group of you, take it in turns. Where you are using a candle, it may be as well to place a pin into the candle for each, so that as it burns they fall away one by one. When the victim is dismembered, or all the pins have dropped, make your offering: Hold the wine up and say, "I give thanks to the Old Gods who bring life and light, death and rest, rebirth and renewal. May they accept this offering. Blessed Be." Take a sip of the wine and the pour the rest onto the ground, remain and meditate for a short while.
[From The Real Witches' Year by Kate West]

"Lammas Eve do court success.
if it's your goal and you confess,
then weave a spell with great finesse,
and you may find that you are blessed."

New Moon - (Dark Moon) rises at sunrise and sets at sunset. Astrologically, the Sun and the Moon are in conjunction. Because the Sun's light overpowers the nearby Moon in the day, and the Moon is on the other side of the Earth with the Sun at  night, she is not visible in the sky at all. The New Moon is like a SEED planted in the earth. We cannot see her but she is ready to grow, full of potential and energy for her new journey/cycle. This is the beginning of a new cycle. Keywords for the New phase are: beginning, birth, emergence, projection, and clarity. It is the time in a cycle that you are stimulated to take a new action. During this phase the cycle is seeded by your vision,  inner and outer. Engage in physical activity. Spend time alone. VISUALIZE your goals for the 29.6 day cycle ahead. Those who are born during a New Moon phase are impulsive, passionate and intuitive. They are risk takers and pioneers.

Moon in Leo - The Moon in Leo illuminates our extroverted sides; we brim with generosity but can get stuck in our own p0erspective. With Moon in Leo we have the guts to be visible and bring culture to life. Moon in Leo is the best time to work magick involving authority, power over others, courage, fertility or childbirth. Healing rituals for ailments of the upper back, spine or heart are also done during this period of time.  One born under a Leo Moon sign can fill a room with personality and make the most of any situation, but may need to learn to honor the quiet, the mundane or another's reality.

Balsamic Moon phase - The Balsamic Moon is the COMPOST phase, when the nutrients remain in the soil, providing nourishment for the next new seed. The Balsamic Moon (or waning crescent moon) rises before dawn and sets midafternoon. She is last sliver of Moon seen in the eastern sky in the dawn and in the very early morning. This is the end of one cycle and the beginning of another. Keywords for the Balsamic phase are: transition, release, transformation, renewal and purity. It is the phase in a cycle when you must let go of everything you have been working on that does not deal with the current cycle issues. During this phase you reflect on the passing cycle and prepare for the new. Trust in renewal. It is important to separate from others now so that you can clear the intellect of negativity. LET GO. Become still ad meditate. For those born in a Balsamic Moon phase  - they possess the potential to be wise, insightful, understanding and patient. They are prophetic and unique.

Moon in Cancer - The Moon in Cancer deepens our feelings; our moods are stormy and vast, our hunger and desire to feed others sharpens. We protect our own, nest in our cave, need to know we're safe. Hunger grows but for more than food. With Moon in Cancer our feelings take the lead. Cancer encourages the wisdom rising out of our oceanic unconscious through moods and feelings. Ground in the magick of your home as a temple. Ask what needs protecting and feeding. Moon in Cancer is the best time to work magick for home and domestic life. Healing rituals for ailments of the chest or stomach are also done during this period of time.  For those born under a Cancer Moon sign - they are wonderfully nurturing to our culture, body, and soul when we feel safe. Early mother/home issues can be composted into empathic understanding.

Woden's Day - Mercury Day, the Day of Communication and Connection..... there are minor magickal energies for working in your Book of Shadows and to do rites/spells to defend against psychic attacks.
There are still strong Moon in Gemini energies most of the day for aiding you in your communication and connection skill on this Woden Day.

Moon in Gemini is the best time to work magick for good communication, change of residence, writing, public relations and travel. Last Quarter Moon - The Last Quarter Moon (or waning half moon) rises around midnight and sets around noon. Astrologically the Moon is square to the Sun. She is visible from the time she rises until she sets. The Last Quarter Moon is the HARVEST phase - the moon plant gives her live so that others may continue theirs. Keywords for the Last Quarter phase are: realighment, revision, integration and cleansing. It is the time in a cycle to take closing action, to follow-up and complete the activities begun at the New phase. During this phase you become aware of what is and is not working with respect to the achievement of your goal for the cycle. The movement is toward integration. Open to your success. MANIFEST YOUR GOAL. Be responsible.  For those who were born in a Last Quarter phase - they will have a powerful internal life of reflection and transformation. They can assume different roles while balancing their internal and external worlds.

Moon in Taurus - This moon transit asks us to discover what nurtures us and how to grow deeper roots. It is a time to cultivate our material resources, our homes and our bodies. The Moon in Taurus grounds us; it slows us down and wakes our sensual nature and stubbornness, helps us dig deeper roots. This is a time to cultivate relationships and ideas, make love, nurture, take a stand and embody. This lunar transit concerns money, work, property, sensuality, building cautiously and slowly, being conscientious and emotional patterns based on security. The energy flow is even. The forceful movement of Aries becomes solid, calm and patient during a Taurus transit. The middle of a Taurus transit is a good time continue or finish projects. Taurus gives attention to order and detail. Emotionally there is stubbornness, but great sensitivity to others. Moon in Taurus is the best time to work magick for love, real estate, material acquisitions and money. Healing rituals for ailments of the throat, neck, and ears are also done during this period of time. For those born under a Taurus moon sign they roots that grow  more deeply and make changes more slowly. They collect, touch, support and see the sacred in the world of matter. Being steady they can loan their strength to others, but may need to learn the beauty in change.

Saturn's Day - the Day of Manifestation and Structure, Assessment and Responsibility - Foundation Day ....there minor magickal energies today spells/rites of protection.

Sun in Leo - .....  Leo is another Fixed Fire Sign, bringing enthusiasm, spontaneity and energy. It is also a Fixed sign emphasizing the senses, desires, and intense reactions.

Leo's symbol is the lion, the King of Beasts, and this gives a good indication of those born at this time. The key phase for Leos is "I will".  Those born when the Sun is in Leo are generally extroverts. They will be self-assertive and self-controlling. While usually generous and warm hearted they will also know how to use power and to control others. They are high achievers and their commanding personalities make them good leaders unless they allow themselves to become overbearing and dominating. Leos are good organizers and, being outgoing, make good spokespeople, speakers and actors. They are usually highly principled and forthright but tend to acquire very fixed opinions, sometimes despite evidence to the contrary. In relationships Leos are wholehearted, sincere, very sensual and pleasure loving. On the negative side they can be overwhelming, intolerant and autocratic. They sometimes seem to be bossy and boastful.
At this time those born with the Sun in Leo should be careful to exercise their self-restraint,  as the Sun's energy will emphasize any failings. They should also be aware of their tendency to dominate any group of people, whether deliberately or not, and be prepared to step back and let others have their say. Non-Leos can utilize the energy of this time to become more self-assertive and to look towards claiming what is due to them. Magically this is a good time for learning new skills or improving talents.

Thor's Day - Jupiter Day - the Day of Vision, Spiritual Insight and Expansion ....

Old Lughnasadh - Lughnasadh is the festival of the Celtic Sun God Lugh. It is also known as Lammas from the old Hlafmas or Loafmas, a name which comes from the fact that it is also the festival of the first of the harvest.....

It used to be the case that everyone would put aside their usual occupations and join together in the harvest. The first bread baked from this became the main part of the celebratory feast. It was considered unlucky to gather the last of the harvest and so everyone would gather around the last stems and, hurling the scythes, would work together to cut them down. Because of the way the crops were harvested many small animals would driven from the corn and these would also make their contribution to the feast. Regrettably today they are often slaughtered indiscriminately as the great harvesting machines clear all before them.
Seek out a place where crops are being grown and see if you can pick just one or two ripe stems. If you look along the edges of the fields you will often see some 'strays' which avoids any need for trespass or walking on the crop, neither of which benefits the land nor will endear you to the farmer. Take these home and place them on your Altar. If you can find enough, weave a circle of corn to honor the season. You may also find that you can purchase ripened corn stalks from your florist. Whether you find or buy your corn, remember to make an offering of thanks to the land for the harvest.

Disseminating Moon - The moon entered the Disseminating Moon phase  on the 18th at 10:55PM EDST. This is the waning full Moon getting visibly smaller. She rises midevening and sets midmorning. She is visible from the time she rises almost until she sets. As we go into the darkening phase of the Disseminating Mon, we get the FRUIT of the moon plant's life cycle - the fruits of wisdom and experience. Keywords for the Disseminating Moon phase are: demonstration, distribution, sharing and introspection. It is the time in a lunar cycle to further process your advancement toward your goal by looking at the results of your adjusting action taken at the Full phase. During this phase you gain clarity by sharing what you've learned through awareness. Demonstrate your power of abundance by giving back to your community. Visit friends. Distribute your knowledge. SHARE. Reach out and touch someone.  Those who are born in a Disseminating Moon phase find that life must having meaning and purpose. They enjoy sharing their ideas with others.

Moon in Aries - The Moon in Aries lights a fire under our tails; it wakes us up, strips away our complications and our patience. We can make a fresh start but we tend to shoot from the hip, move fast, argue quickly. The Moon in  Aries asks us to wake up and remember who we truly are, even if it bothers those we love or work for. Tempers, tears, and passions run hot. In an Aries moon transit we tend to act on impulsiveness and we act on feelings of the moment, rather than the result of reason. The force of Aries is felt in emotional surges where we may be highly assertive and enthusiastic.  Moon in Aries is the best time to work magick involving leadership, authority, rebirth, spiritual conversion or willpower. Healing rituals for ailments of the face, head, or brain are also done during this period of time.  Those born under an Aries Moon sign are passionate, honest and fierce, big-hearted but intensely self-directed. They are happy to loan their fire to inspire others, just don't tell them what to do.

Sun Day - the Day of Intent, Creation and Renewal - Creation Day....

Summer Meditation: On a warm day go out into the countryside or a park ....

Take a blanket or something else to lie on. If things are noisy it may be a good idea to shield your ears with a set of headphones, so take a personal cassette player so that you do not look odd! Remove your footwear and lie down so that the palms of your hands and the soles of your feet are in contact with the earth.
Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths to help you relax. As you do so, be aware of the different scents all around you. With your hands and feet feel your contact with the earth and focus until you can feel the pulse of the land. Now reach out with your mind into the earth, allowing it to travel and be one with the land. Feel the roots of plants and trees reaching down into the soil and follow them up into the leaves and branches so that you can feel of Sun and Air. Now follow the roots into soil again until you can detect the underground streams and rivers. Follow these with your mind, from their sources high in the mountains to the depths of the oceans. Feel and notice the different kinds of earth, soil, stones, rocks, and even the particles of sand. As you let your mind travel, look at the varieties of life: the fish, animals, insects, birds and people. When you are ready, sit up and rub your arms and legs to ground yourself. On your return write down your experiences to help you remember it.

Full Moon - She opens and blossoms during the Full Moon into the FLOWER, with the desire to share her beauty with others. The Full Moon rises at sunset and sets at sunrise. Astrologically the Sun and Moon are in opposition (i.e. opposite each other in the sky and in opposite signs of the zodiac). She is visible all night long from moonrise to moonset. Keywords for the Full Moon are: fulfillment, illumination, realization and experience. It is the time in a lunar cycle that you are given a clear view so that you can make adjustments to put you back on track to manifesting the goals you set at the new phase. Go to a public place. Do something with a friend. LISTEN. Receive awareness. Understand others.

Moon in Aquarius - The Moon in Aquarius connects us to our community, reminds us that we are in this together. It asks us to make sure we walk our talk and integrate our philosophy with our politics. We abstract, communicate and work the crowd, but may be less intimate. The Moon in Aquarius expands our circles and offers the magic of collaboration; spirit and politics weave together. We can get too farsighted now and need to stay aware of others' feelings. Let go of assumptions and find new, unusual allies. This is a transit of dealing with facts, organizing, political issues, desire to save the world, through social action. Moon in Aquarius is the best time to work magick involving science, freedom, creative expression, problem-solving, extrasensory abilities, friendship and the breaking of bad habits or unhealthy addictions. Healing rituals for ailments of the calves, ankles or blood are also done at this time. Those born under an Aquarius Moon sign are far sighted with a gentle stubbornness; they understand group dynamics and may be more aware in family, tribe, and community that they are in their most intimate relations.

Rituals may be hard to get off the ground because of al the grounded earth energy, but they can be a lot fun once they get going.

Solar Question for the Day: "What
ambitions wait to be fulfilled in
your life?"
Beltane (Calan Mai) Quarter

July 13th, 2011

Moon in Capricorn - The Moon in Capricorn inspires our ambitions for good or ill, we just have to be gentle on our souls if we're not there yet. Lead and manage but do not manipulate or control. This is a time to: build, dig, organize, exercise discipline, work on foundations and make practical progress on a dream. Moon in Capricorn brings planning magick and takes your ideas giving them form and hope. We can tap into the inner wisewoman - ask how form, ritual, organization or tradition can serve. This transit concerns leadership issues, security, responsibilities, the need to be recognized, desire to create environments, time to take of business, deal with alternative healing for your body and intensification of your powers of concentration.
After Sagittarius expansiveness, now we feel contraction and a time to pay attention to our needs for security, duties, obligations, drives and ambitions. It's good for setting and achieving goals, 'going for it' materially; as now we feel persistent and ambitious. Be careful to avoid insensitivity to others, and stay out of negative and pessimistic mind sets that will only drag you down. Take this moon transit to deal with your material plane, especially if you have neglected it too long. Moon in Capricorn is the best time to work magick for organization, ambition, recognition, career and political matters. Healing rituals for the knees, bones, teeth and skin are also done at this time. Those born under a Capricorn moon sign have a strong work ethic, competence, and leadership capacity, but may need to learn to love themselves holding still.

Gibbous Moon Phase: The Gibbous moon rises midafternoon and sets before dawn. She is the bulging Moon getting ready to be Full, visible soon after she rises until she sets. The Gibbous Moon is the BUD of the moon plant, the pulse of life tightly wrapped, wanting to expand. Keywords for the Gibbous phase are: analyze, prepare and trust. It is the time in a lunar cycle to process the results of the actions taken during the First Quarter. During this phase you are gathering information. Give up making judgments. It will only lead to worry. Your knowledge is incomplete. Laugh. Analyze and filter. LOOK WITHIN. For those born during a Gibbous moon phase - their talents lie in the ability to refine, organize, and purify. They are seekers, utilizing spiritual tools as guides on their paths.

Moon in Sagittarius - The Moon in Sagittarius gets us moving; it brings cheerful impatience and refreshing honesty. We need wide open minds, souls, and attitudes, but can't sit still. This is a transit when it is time to get honest, forgive, dance, hike, explore and connect to the natural world. Moon in Sagittarius brings out our inner-Artemis; we need to roam, to explore in body and in soul.  Our curiosity intensifies. Check out untraveled territory; have a long talk with the animals in your garden. The restless, enthusiastic Sagittarius loves adventure, change and motion. The moon this sign is a time for philosophy, metaphysics, travelling, studying and freedom from responsibility. Sagittarius brings the need to feel free of restrictions and to be spontaneous. Her restless and independent vibes make it a good time for seeing new places, encountering different people and relating to a changing environment. There are inclinations towards open, honest exchanges.  Moon in Sagittariuas is the best time to work magick for publications, legal matters, travel, and truth. Healing rituals for ailments of the liver, thighs, or hips are also done at this time. For those born under a Sagittarius Moon sign, they are funny, restless, freedom-loving, and direct; they are a global citizen but need also to look for answers at home. They can accept the wild in all sentient beings.

Moon Day - the Day of Remembering and Feeling - Impression Day

Celtic Tree Month of Holly - "We tend to associate the Holly with winter, when its red berries are brought in to decorate the house, but its place in the Celtic tree cycle is far earlier, soon after the Summer Solstice when the Holly Lord takes his crown."
Magically, Holly and Oak are linked and their energies are seen as complimentary to one another. If you can find a site where they grow together, or even better entwined, this is ideal for magical workings, especially otherworld meditations. If you can find such a place, meditate there at dusk to see spirits and visions. Left to is own devices the Holly can grow as high as 60 feet, but most are trimmed to bushes or hedges these days. Well-seasoned Holly makes an excellent staff, although it is nowadays rare to find a tree high enough to provide the length required. It is said that a staff of Holly twisted around Oak will protect both the traveller and his home from danger. The Holly is a tree which links, so it can be used to strengthen relationships and also as a magical pathway. Carve pieces into charms of protection and gives them to friends to make your relationship endure.
The berries, while poisonous, used to be given in cases of poisoning, being highly emetic and purgative, although it is not something that I would recommend. Dried and powdered they were used to stem hemorrhaging. A solution of the leaves was drunk to reduce fevers and has been used as a tea substitute. The bark and leaves were made into poultices to help the setting and healing of broken bones.

First Quarter Moon - The First Quarter Moon (or waxing Half Moon) rises around noon and sets around midnight. Astrologically, the Moon is square to the Sun. She is visible from the time she rises until she sets.  The First Quarter Moon is the GROWTH phase. Roots go deeper, stems shoot up and leaves form as she created a new strong body. Keywords for the First Quarter phase are: action, expression, growth, and breaking away. It is the time in a lunar cycle to take the initial action necessary to achieve your goal by expressing your needs and desires. FEEL & MOVE. Make phone calls. Write letters. Dance. Act now. Those who are born during a First Quarter Moon phase live a full active life - old structures are cleared away providing room for new development.

Moon in Scorpio - The Moon in Scorpio gives us attitude, and brings out our primal side; it sharpens our curiosity and our edges, our focus to the point of obsession. Fluff doesn't cut it; get real or let it go; honor privacy, don't crowd. Moon in Scorpio is the best time to work magick involving sexual matters, power, psychic growth, secrets and fundamental transformations. Healing rituals for ailments of the reproductive organs are also done during this period of time. Those born under a Scorpio Moon sign are intense, fiercely curious, and need to create solitude with healthy boundaries rather than isolation.

Crescent Moon - (or waxing Crescent Moon) rises midmorning and sets after sunset. She is the first visible sliver of Moon seen in the western sky in the late afternoon and early evening. The Crescent Moon is the SPROUT. The seed has broken through the earth and reaches up as she ventures from the dark, moist earth she has known. Keywords for the Crescent Moon are: expansion, growth, struggle and opportunity. It is the time in a lunar cycle that you gather the wisdom learned in the New phase and communicate your intention to move forward. Light a candle. Write or read an affirmation. LISTEN & ABSORB. Commit to your goal. Those born during the Crescent Moon phase must break from the past to create their own destiny.

Moon in Virgo - The Moon in Virgo sends us back to work after the Leo party and gives us a to-do list. We become impatiently aware of what needs to be improved, fixed or healed. Our compassion is strong, but we can get irritated at less industrious folk. This is a transit to: weed, edit, critique, care, exercise, investigate, study, heal, but be gentle with others. The Moon in Virgo asks us to consider what needs healing and what need composting. It's time to learn, train, organize and turn our compassion into pragmatic action. Don't get stuck in your head. Those born under a Virgo Moon sign are curious, responsible, caring, but need to cultivate gentle acceptance of self and others. Moon in Virgo is the best time to work magick involving employment, intellectual matters, healt6h, and dietary concerns. Healing rituals for ailments of the intestines or nervous system are also done during this period of time.

Moon Day - the Day of Remembering and Feeling - Impression Day ..... there are Major magickal energies to Borrow or Lend Money and minor magickal energies for issues regarding feminine or domestic matters.  As the moon is going to be void of course till 9:16PM tonight, I would be careful to trust these magickal energies.

Moon in Leo - The Moon in Leo illuminates our extroverted sides; we brim with generosity but can stuck in our own perspective. This lunar transit is a time to: shine, express, dramatize, celebrate, create, appreciate, stage, reach out and be generous with our attention; watch assumptions and do not push the stubborn.  We have the guts to be visible and bring culture to life.  Dramatic happenings, especially concerning emotions, being the center of attention, exuberance, vitality and working with patriarchal issues are all hallmarks of the Leo Moon transit. It's high drama with the moon in Leo as she steps out onto the stage to entertain us once again. You will probably want to out the 'drama queen' part of yourself or just be romantic. This is a time of vital energy, affection and romance and a Leo extravaganza. You will want to spend money during Moon in Leo. It's hard to recognize limits in a Leo Moon transit; it's also time for power issues to erupt. Who will be the center of attention? Ambition and independent leadership are important issues. Leo has great pride, which is evident now. As the moon moves towards Virgo, (late Monday evening) the ambitious energy of Leo becomes unassuming. Those born under a Leo Moon sign can fill a room with personality and make the most of any situation, but may need to learn the honor the quiet, the mundane or another's reality. Moon in Leo is the best time to work magick involving authority, power over others, courage, fertility or childbirth. Healing rituals for ailments of the upper back, spine or heart are also done during this period of time.

New Moon - (or dark moon) rises at sunrise and sets at sunset. Astrologically, the Sun and Moon are in conjunction. Because the Sun's light overpowers the nearby Moon in the day, and the Moon is on the other side of the of the Earth with the Sun at night, she is not visible in the sky at all. The New Moon is like a SEED planted in the earth. We cannot see her but she is ready to grow, full of potential and energy for her new journey. The New Moon is beginning of a new lunar cycle. Keywords for the New phase are: beginning, birth, emergence, projection and clarity. It is the time in a cycle that you are stimulated to take a new action. During this phase the new cycle is being seeded by your vision, inner and outer. Engage in physical activity. Spend time alone. VISUALIZE your goals for the 29.6-day cycle ahead. Those who are born at the New Moon phase are impulsive, passionate, and intuitive. They are risk takers and pioneers.

Solar Eclipse of July 1st, 2011

A partial solar eclipse will occur on July 1, 2011. A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between Earth and the Sun, thereby totally or partially obscuring the image of the Sun for a viewer on Earth. A partial solar eclipse occurs in the polar regions of the Earth when the center of the Moon's shadow misses the Earth.

This is the first solar eclipse of Saros cycle 156, only visible as a partial solar eclipse in a small area south of South Africa and north of Antarctica. At greatest eclipse, the magnitude will be just 0.097. [1]

This eclipse is the third of four partial solar eclipses in 2011, with the others occurring on January 4, 2011, June 1, 2011, and November 25, 2011.

What Molly Hall has to say about this solar eclipse:  http://astrology.about.com/od/solarandlunareclipses/qt/solareclipse.htm?nl=1
