Moon in Aquarius - The Moon in Aquarius connects us to our community, reminds us that we are in this together. It asks us to make sure we walk our talk and integrate our philosophy with our politics. We abstract, communicate and work the crowd, but may be less intimate. The Moon in Aquarius expands our circles and offers the magick of collaboration; spirit and politics weave together. We can get too farsighted now and need to stay aware of others' feelings. Let go of assumptions and find new, unusual allies. This is a transit of dealing with facts, organizing, political issues, desire to save the world through social action, connecting with others in social situations, scientific pursuits, detachment, and the need to come and go without restriction.
Aquarius Moon's monthly transit is a dramatic mood change. Where Capricorn values tradition and caution, Aquarius indicates anything new, innovative, different or unconventional. Extremes of behavior occur during this moon, especially extremes of optimism and pessimism. While we may be feeling a need to be friendly and social - we don't want to be too personal or go too deep. Aquarius can be detached or rational rather than emotional, and will change only if it's logical to do so. Those born under an Aquarius Moon is far sighted with a gentle stubbornness; they understand group dynamics and may be more aware in family tribe, community than they are in their most intimate relations.

Fried Elderberry Blossoms:  (from:
http://www.theausteritykitchen.com/2009/05/fried-elderberry-blossoms.html)
Springtime forests abound with culinary delights and elderberry blossoms are one of them. The fragrant cream-colored blossoms of the common elderberry tree appear toward the end of May, turning to small purple berries by late June. Poisonous in their unripe state, the mature berries are used to make wine, brandy, jellies, chutneys and pies. The flowers are popular in teas and cordials, because their balmy flavor lends itself to sweetened beverages. Both the berries and flowers contain an abundance of antioxidants and other beneficial properties.

The 1888 Family Living on $500 a Year: A Daily Reference-Book for Young and Inexperienced Housewives suggests using elderberries, along with sugar and allspice, to make a spicy ketchup. But the elderberry also has associations and uses far more mystical: In England and Scotland, the elderberry tree was thought to possess narcotic properties, and to sleep beneath the shade of its leaves was to court certain danger. Amulets made from the tree's leaves and bark were used as evil charms. But the elderberry didn't just lend itself to purposes malign; Hans Christian Andersen's story "The Elder-Tree Mother" (1845) tells of the elderberry's ability to ward off evil magic and summon benevolent spirits. And the Tsimshians of British Columbia believed the elderberry bush helped summon mankind itself into existence by coupling with the Raven-god.

The Elder-Tree Mother

Here's a German recipe for fried elderberry blossoms. It's a simple dish that costs next to nothing. Serve it as a dessert or an afternoon snack.

Fried Elderberry Blossoms

8 elderberry blossoms, with the stems still attached
9 ounces flour
8.5 ounces milk
2 tablespoons rum
1 pinch salt
2 teaspoons honey
1 egg
oil for frying
1 teaspoon cinnamon
3 teaspoons sugar

Lay the elderberry blossoms in a dish with water and gently swirl the water around the blossoms. Lay them on a dishtowel to dry. Mix the flour, milk, rum, salt, honey and egg into a thin batter. Let stand 30 minutes. Heat the oil in a large pan to 356 degrees F. Test the heated oil with a spoonful of batter -- it should quickly become a light brown. Dip the blossoms in the batter and fry in the oil until golden brown. Then lay them on a plate covered in a paper towel to absorb the excess oil. Mix the cinnamon and sugar and sprinkle over the fried blossoms (you can also use powdered sugar). Serve immediately.

Waxing Crescent Moon - The Moon has reached beyond the first three days of age and is 45-90 degrees ahead of the Sun. The Crescent faces East - the gates of rebirth. The Moon rises at mid-morning and sets after sunset. The crescent's greatest strength is  at the midpoint. Work for animals, business, change, emotions and matriarchal strength.  The setting Crescent Moon can be seen in the western sky in the late afternoon or early evening. The Crescent Moon is the SPROUT of the lunar plant. The seed has broken through the earth and reaches up as she ventures from the dark moist earth she has known. Keywords for the Crescent phase are: expansion, growth, struggle, and opportunity. It is the time in a cycle that you gather the wisdom learned in the new phase and communicate your intention to move forward. Light a candle. Write or read an affirmation. LISTEN & ABSORB. Commit to your goal(s).
Those who are born in a Waxing Crescent phase must break from the past to create their own destiny.

Moon in Capricorn - The moon entered Capricorn late Saturday nite (10:05PM) and will leave it this evening at 6:01PM EST.  There is still time to make commitments to goals for this lunar cycle under Capricorn energies.  Capricorn transits bring energies of organization, exercising discipline, working on foundations and making progress on a practical dream or two.  Those born under a Capricorn moon sign have strong work ethics, competence, and leadership capacity but may need to learn to love themselves holding still.  The Moon will enter the Fixed Air Sign of Aquarius early tomorrow morning at 2:02AM EST.

Moon Day - the Day of Remembering and Feeling - Impression Day ... there are minor magickal energies today for working with feminine and/or domestic issues.

Elder Tree Commentary from "The Celtic Oracle" --

The Elder is a veritable medicine chest with its bark, leaves, flowers and berries all being used in herbal medicine to treat many ailments including bruises, wounds, cold, hayfever, respiratory illness and fevers. Its berries are particularly potent and the Druids regarded any that remained on the tree in December as a gift from the Earth Goddess. These were gathered and made into a sacred wine which was drunk to aid clairvoyance. Its wood is said to protect against enchantment, negativity and lightning and whistles or flutes were made from elder have a reputation for aiding fairy contact. In Ireland the witches' broom has a shaft made of elder as opposed to the more traditional ash.
In the Celtic Tree Calendar elder marks the darkest time to the year and so is associated with death and the Crone aspect of the Triple Goddess. Indeed, funerary flints have been found in megalithic long burrows in the shape of elder leaves and in others an elder leaf shaped portal has been carved out between two slabs of stone showing that its association with death goes back beyond the Celts into pre-history.

New Moon - Age 0 to 1 days and the moon is 0-45 degrees directly ahead of the sun - rises at dawn and sets at sunset. Magick should be performed between dawn and sunset. A New Moon's power is embryonic, you can be assured that the power of any spell at this time will continue nto increase in power as time goes on. Working with Sun Goddesses such as Sekhmet, Vesta, & Heartha or the God Ra will increase power. Work for self-improvement, gardening, careers and romance. This is the beginning of a new cycle. Keywords for the New phase: beginning, birth, emergence, projection, and clarity. It is the time in a cycle that you are stimulated to take a new action. During this phase the new cycle is being seeded by your vision, inner and outer. Engage in physical activity. Spend time alone. VISUALIZE your goals for the 29.6 day cycle ahead. Astrologically the Sun and the Moon are in conjunction. Because the Sun's light overpowers the nearby Moon in the day, and the Moon is on the other side of the Earth with the Sun at night she is not visible in the sky at all. The New Moon is like a SEED planted in the earth. We cannot see her but she is ready to grow, full of potential and energy for her new journey. For those who are born during a New Moon phase they are impulsive, passionate and impulsive. They are risk takers and pioneers.

Thor's Day - Jupiter Day - the Day of Vision, Spiritual Insight and Expansion...... minor magickal energies for elimination of obstacles to wealth, power and fame.

Mercury Retrograde - began today at 2:19AM EST.... A planet is described as retrograde when it appears to be moving backwards through the zodiac. According to modern science, this traditional concept arises in the illusory planetary motion created by the orbital rotation of the earth with relation to other planets in our solar system. It's a bit like travelling on the road watching another car beside you: when the other car slows down, or you speed up, it looks as though the other car is moving backwards. Planets are never actually retrograde or stationary, they just seem that way due to this cosmic shadow-play. Click here for some neat graphics and more on the science of retrograde planetary motion. http://www.astrologycom.com/retroframe.html

Retrograde periods, although often problematic for us earthlings, are not particularly uncommon. Each planet retrogrades, except the Sun and Moon. Although a powerful astrological influence, Mercury is quite a small planet that travels at a relatively fast speed through the zodiac. Despite being the closest planet in our solar system to the Sun, Mercury is not always in the same sign as the Sun. This time Merc turns in Sagittarius while the Sun too is in Sagittarius and both of these celestials remain in Sagittarius till the end of the retro phase on Dec 14. However, by way of illustration, Mercury turned retrograde last time in Virgo while the Sun was in Leo, then moved back to Leo on the 8th to join the Sun, but the solar orb moved into Virgo on August 23 (with Mercury by then back in Leo). Mercury turned direct in Leo on August 26 with the Sun still in Virgo, but Mercury remained in Leo till Sep 9, when he entered Virgo again. The Divine Messenger remained in Virgo until Sep 25.
So we may use the Retrograde period from November 24th through December 13th when Mercury looks back in Sagittarius to discover meaningful connections previously overlooked. When we widen our vision, our inner philosopher gets engaged.
Molly Hall says in her article this morning: "It's striking that all the Mercury Retrogrades this year are in fire signs. This time, starting Thursday, November 24th (2:19 am est), Mercury spirals back (to our eyes) in mutable Sagittarius at 20 degrees. It's a particularly rousing retrograde, with Venus at the beyond mysterious Galactic Center, a source of creative chaos to spin us in new, expansive directions. On top of that, the Moon's North Node is also in Sagittarius, for a pull toward the visionary, spirited values and animating our lives fully.

This retrograde will last until December 13th or 14th (in some places), and the shadow period until January 1st, 2012. To ring in the auspicious new year, Mercury crosses the 3 degree threshold, the farthest point tracked back in the retrograde period. This comes at the holidays, when many travel out of family duty and nerves are already frazzled. If delays are possible, bring a book, game or your laptop and fill those waiting hours with mental adventures. This retrograde cycles back burning ideas, that might've gotten buried under everyday responsibilities. Pay close attention to what inspires you, especially what sets off a domino effect of realizations. Sometimes Mercury retrogrades are experienced as a mental vacation, a breather from scanning the horizon for the new. In Sagittarius at this retrograde, the visions are as likely to come from a lifetime of inner journeying, as they are from actual physical travel.
Mercury Retro in Real Life More on fated events, orchestrated chaos, perceived delays (real or not?) of this infamous, and often misunderstood, planetary cycle."

Sun in Sagittarius - Mutable Fire sign Sagittarius calls our attention up and out, to the mountain tops, to the wild, and to the global community. It ask us to see potential and celebrate our journey thus far. Those born with a Sagittarius Sun need space; they see the big picture and its far horizons, but can trip over details close to home, and hate to feel fenced in. They remind us to honor all our relations, all people and species around the globe. They can speak honestly without a sting, but may need to learn the gift of silence.

Moon in Scorpio - Yesterday the Moon entered Scorpio at 8:58PM EST. The Moon in Scorpio gives us
attitude and brings out our primal side; it sharpens our curiosity and our edges, our focus to the point of obsession. Fluff doesn't cut it; get real or let it go; honor privacy, don't crowd. This transit is a time to dig deep, investigate, weed out the unnecessary, do surgery, keep secrets and love each up. Scorpio weaves the visible and invisible together. We see through and into the roots. Direct the energy away from obsession and towards creation. Sexuality can be potent, musky. The moon's transit through Scorpio is a time of death and rebirth (not necessarily physical death), intensity, extremes, and heightened sensitivity. It is good for focusing, being sexual and doing psychic work because of the deep emotions and desires Scorpio brings. Emotional resentments from the past can surface and block your heightened creative energy, so fight urges to be suspicious, secretive and moody. This is a time of regeneration and cleaning out emotional debris from the previous month. There is great energy to complete things and focus on certain areas that you have found yourself too scattered to deal with in the previous cycle. Moon in Scorpio is the best time to work magick involving sexual matters, power, psychic growth, secrets and fundamental transformation. Healing rituals for ailments of the reproductive organs are also done during this period of time. For those born under a Scorpio Moon are intense, fiercely curious and need to create solitude with health boundaries rather than isolation.  The Moon leaves Scorpio tomorrow at 6:04PM EST and enters Sagittarius at 8:57P< EST in preparation for the New Moon on Friday at 1:00AM EST.

Balsamic Moon  - This is waning crescent moon which rises before dawn and sets midafternoon. She is the last sliver of Moon seen in the eastern sky in the dawn and in the very early evening. The Balsamic Moon is the COMPOST phase of the moon plant. It is when the nutrients remain in the soil, providing nourishment for the next new seed. Those born during this phase possess the potential to be wise, insightful, understanding and patient. They are prophetic and unique.  This phase is end of one cycle and the beginning of another. Keywords for it are:  transition, release, transformation, renewal and purity.
It is the phase in a lunar cycle when you must let go of everything on that doesn't deal with the current cycle issues. During this phase you reflect on the passing cycle and prepare for the new one. Trust in renewal. It is important to separate from others now so that you can clear the intellect of negativity. LET GO. Become still and meditate.

Woden's Day - Mercury Day - the Day of Communication and Connection...minor magickal energies are available to defend against psychic attacks.

Moon in Libra - The Moon in Libra opens our sociability, brings a friendly, egalitarian vibe and encourages us to connect. This is moon transit to seek justice, romance, meet, approach, create, beautify, find our core balance, and balance our needs with others. Moon in Libra highlights the magick of the dance of inter-relatedness - friendly, romantic, and searching for a way to connect. Libra asks us to treat those around us as equals and make sure our politics and art, our lovemaking, and our networks integrate. This transit concerns cooperation, harmony, focus on relationships, and fine artistic pursuits. All partnership activity will be heightened during this moon transit. But those not in a relationship may crave one or feel alone and lonely. Be aware of superficial bonding just to ease the pain of aloneness. Yet Moon in Libra is a nice time to throw a party. Everyone will be extremely social and try to please and flatter others.  Moon in Libra is the best time to work magick involving artistic work, justice, court cases, partnerships and unions, mental stimulation and karmic, spiritual or emotional balance. Healing rituals for ailments of the lower back or kidneys are also done during this period of time. Those born under a Libra moon sign are peacemakers, but need to remember to keep themselves in the equation. They see the beauty and seek fairness, and help us to understand one another.

Sun Day - is the Day of Intent, Creation and Renewal ....There are minor magickal energies for banishing disease and addictions.

Here is a link to an interesting article on the Internet that I came across this morning:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/gerit-quealy/forgotten-women-witches-h_b_859230.html#s275949&title=Three_Witches
It is titled Forgotten Women: Witches, Healers and Medicine Women..    I think you will find it interesting....

Understanding the Phases of the Moon:

The lunar cycle from New Moon to New Moon lasts 29.5 days but because the moon has an irregular orbit, the rising and setting of the moon will vary each day and the length of the moon month can likewise vary by up to a day. The cycle of the moon can be divided into n either three or eight phases. I honor the eight phase cycle.  You can follow the different moon phases in the weather section of a newspaper or diary (or on the Internet - I use the http://www.zodiacarts.com/Calendar.shtml) but what you see in the sky and what you feel are always your best guide to using moon energies. In order to follow the monthly journey of the moon, watch her in the sky, not just for one month but for several. Even in town you can use buildings as markers and will notice variations in position as the months pass, because of the moon's irregular path.
Catherine Yronwode has one of the best moon information section on the internet (www.luckymojo.com/moonphases.html)  and describes a simple method of telling the approximate moon phases if you are totally unfamiliar with the concept.
She says if the moon is shining in the sky in evening when the sun sets, it is waxing (increasing) and each night rises a little later and gets a little fatter. The Full Moon rises almost at the same time as the sun sets. If after sunset or you can see it faintly during the day the following day, rising again a little later and looking thinner each day, you know it is waning (decreasing).
The lunar calendar provided by Catherine Yronwode if for California time zone; the one at the Zodiac Lunar Calender is set up for Eastern Time Zone but there  is an area in the site to change it to most any time zone.

Last Quarter Moon - The age of the moon is now 21 to 24.5 days and the moon is 270-315 degrees ahead of the sun. The crescent shape turns westward, to the realm of death. The power of the moon is now waning, being drawn inside for later use. Cast spells now requiring resolution or something to be concluded. The waning moon is used for banishing magick, for ridding oneself of addictions, illness or negativity. The Last Quarter moon (or waning half) rises around midnight and sets around noon. Astrologically the Moon is square to the Sun. She is visible from the time she rises until she sets. This phase is the HARVEST phase - this is when the moon plant gives her life so that others may continue theirs. Keywords for the Last Quarter phase are: realignment, revision, integration, and cleansing. It is the time in a cycle to take closing action, to follow-up and complete the activities begun at the New phase. During this phase you become aware of what is and is not working with respect to the achievement of your goal for this cycle. The movement is toward integration. Open to your success. MANIFEST YOUR GOAL. Be responsible. Those who are born in Last Quarter phase have a powerful internal life of reflection and transformation. They can assume different roles while balancing their internal and external worlds.

Moon in Virgo - The Moon in Virgo sends us back to work and gives us a to-do list. We become impatiently aware of what needs to be improved, fixed, healed or concluded. Our compassion is strong, but we can get irritated at less industrious fold. This transit is a time to edit, critique, care, exercise, investigate, study, heal but be gentle with others. The Moon in Virgo asks us to consider what needs composting. It's a time to study, learn, train, organize and turn our compassion into pragmatic action. Don't get stuck in your head. Moon in Virgo is the best time to work magick involving employment, intellectual matters, health, and dietary concerns. Healing rituals for ailments of the intestines or nervous system  are also done during this period of time. Those born with a Virgo Moon sign came here to diagnose and heal her soul and the world's. They need to learn to celebrate the beauty in each of us. They offer us practical compassion and ancient wisdom. The moon will leave this sign late Sun Day afternoon and enters Libra.

Thor's Day - Jupiter Day - the Day of Vision, Spiritual Insight and Expansion....

Leonids Meteor Shower -      Rises around midnight....Comets shed the debris that becomes most meteor showers. As comets orbit the Sun, they shed an icy, dusty debris stream along the comet's orbit. If Earth travels through this stream, we will see a meteor shower. Depending on where Earth and the stream meet, meteors appear to fall from a particular place in the sky, maybe within the neighborhood of a constellation. How can you see the meteor shower?  f you live near a brightly lit city, drive away from the glow of city lights and toward the constellation from which the meteors will appear to radiate.
Drive north to view the Leonids. Driving south may lead you to darker skies, but the glow will dominate the northern horizon, where Leo rises. If you can see each star of the Little Dipper, your eyes have "dark adapted," and your chosen site is probably dark enough. Under these conditions, you will see plenty of meteors. Once you have settled at your observing spot, lie back or position yourself so the horizon appears at the edge of your peripheral vision, with the stars and sky filling your field of view. Meteors will instantly grab your attention as they streak by.
In the pre-dawn hours on the mornings of November 17-19th, the offspring of Comet Temple/Tuttle will be flashing through our atmosphere at speeds of up to 72 kilometers per second – and enticing you to test your meteor watching skills against partially moonlit skies. Although the waning Moon will greatly interfere with fainter meteor trails, don’t let that stop you from enjoying early evening observations, or enjoying your morning coffee with a handful of “shooting stars” which will be emanating outward from the constellation of Leo.  As our Earth passes through the dusty matter, it may encounter a place where the comet let loose with a large amount of its payload – or it may pass through an area where the “comet stuff” is thin. We might even pass through an area which produces an exciting “meteor storm” like the Leonids produced in 1883! For those in the know, the Leonid meteor shower also made a rather incredible appearance in 1866 and 1867 – dumping up to 1000 (not a typo, folks) shooting stars recorded even with a Moon present! It erupted again in 1966 and in 1998 and produced 3000 (yep. 3000!) video recorded meteors during the years of 2001 and 2002. But remember, human eyes may only be able to detect just a few. So what’s a realistic guess?

And to make this year’s show twice as nice, you’ll have a hard time not being distracted with the Moon and Mars being right on the radiant! You won’t be able to miss the Red Planet as the Moon slides along south… First to Mars’ west and then to the east on the nights of November 18th and 19th.

Moon in Leo - The Moon in Leo illuminates our extroverted sides: we brim with generosity but can get stuck in our own perspective. This transit is a time to shine, express, dramatize, celebrate, create, appreciate, stage, reach out and be generous with our attention; watch assumptions and do not push the stubborn. Dramatic happenings, especially concerning emotions, being the center of attention, exuberance, vitality and working with patriarchal issues are all hallmarks of a Leo Moon transit. You will probably want to act out the 'drama queen' part of yourself or just be romantic. Enjoy the warmth of kindness and generosity, excitement and exuberance, parties and celebrations. You will want to spend money during Moon in Leo. It's hard to recognize limits during this transit; it's also a time for power issues to erupt. Leo has great pride which is evident now. As the moon moves to Virgo (Friday afternoon), the ambitions of Leo becomes unassuming.  Moon in Leo is the best time to work magick involving authority, power over others, courage, fertility or childbirth. Healing rituals for ailments of the upper back, spine, or heart are also done during this period of time. Those born under a Leo Moon sign can fill a room with personality and make the most of any situation, but may need to learn honor the quiet, the mundane, or another's reality.

Disseminating Moon - The Moon is now age 17.5 to 21 days old. It rises at mid-evening and sets mid-morning. The time of the souls (3am) would be the midpoint here. Banishing work starts now. Workings should focus upon addiction, decisions, divorce, emotions, stress, and protection. The Disseminating Moon is the waning Full Moon getting visibly smaller. As we go into the darkening phase of the Disseminating Moon, we get the FRUIT of the lunar plant's life cycle - the fruits of wisdom and experienc4e. Keywords for the Disseminating phase are: demonstration, distribution, sharing and introspection. It is the time in a cycle to further process your advancement toward your goal(s) by looking at the results of your adjusting action taken at the Full Moon phase. During this phase you gain clarity by sharing what you've learned through awareness. Demonstrate your power of abundance by giving back to your community. Visit friends. Distribute your knowledge. SHARE. Reach and touch someone.  Those born during a Disseminating moon phase find that life must have meaning and purpose. They enjoy sharing their ideas with others.

Moon in Cancer - The Moon in Gemini went void of course yesterday (Sun Day) at 10:42AM EST
and enters the Cardinal Water sign of Cancer at 2:19AM EST this morning. The Moon in Cancer deepens our feelings; our moods are stormy and vast, our hunger and desire to feed others sharpens. We protect our own, nest in our cave, need to know we're safe. Hunger grows, but for more than food. This transit is a time nest, comfort, secure and dive deep into feelings. With the Moon in Cancer our feelings take the lead. Cancer encourages the wisdom rising out of our oceanic unconscious through moods and feelings. Ground in the magick of our home as a temple. Ask what needs protecting and feeding. This transit concerns desires about a home, emotions, security, entertaining friends, cooking, security issues, nostalgia, and the desire to nurture. Prepare a feast in your home, ask your friends over or do psychic work together. We may find ourselves being emotionally and psychically sensitive at this time, and due to these strong emotions women frequently this to be a 'crybaby' moon time.
Moon in Cancer brings heightened sensitivity, desires to nurture and needs to create a home. Because of the home-orientation, coming from a deep-seated need for security, there is a greater interest in food and its preparations. This can easily lead to self-indulgence, so those of us who are health conscious should be aware of the tendency to food binge. Cancer is the home of the moon, sensitive planet of emotions, so feelings are easily hurt, especially by personal criticism. Handle with care.
Nostalgia reigns supreme. This is not a transit when it's easy to be alone, as needs for security in love and friendship are high. As the moon moves towards Leo (Wednesday, Woden's Day, morning) it is a time of great personal warmth and friendship. Be careful to avoid conflict, as a grudge formed now will take a long time to heal. Moon in Cancer is the best time to work magick for home and domestic life. Healing rituals for ailments of the chest or stomach are also done during this period of time. Those born under a Cancer Moon sign can be wonderfully nurturing to our culture, body and soul when they feel safe. Early mother/home issues can be composted into empathic understanding.

Moon Day - the Day of Remembering and Feeling.......

Potatoes - The humble Potato may seem an unlikely magickal tool but forebears would have worked most frequently with the things which are to hand, for these would have been those whose properties they were most familiar with.  As the Mandrake is in fact a member of the Potato family it is perhaps not so surprising that the Potato can used in its own right. Potatoes make excellent poppets or fith-faths for working image magick. When working healing inscribe the name of the subject on a Potato and bury it in the ground at the Full Moon; as the moon wanes, so will the disease. Potato juice mixed with red ink is excellent for writing magical talismans.
A Potato which has naturally gone hard and black has long been carried in the pocket as a cure for rheumatism. Somewhat more scientific is the practice of drinking raw Potato juice which has a high concentration of potash salts. Hot Potato water compresses also relieve the pain of rheumatism and arthritis. Pounded raw Potatoes also make a soothing dressing for burns and scalds. A slice of raw Potato will reduce the inflammation of a bruised or blackened eye. The floury center of a baked Potato when mixed with oil is helpful in healing over-chilled and frostbitten skin. Be sure to make a wish when eating the first new Potatoes of the season.
Two things which any eater of Potatoes, whether Witch or not, should be aware of are that green Potatoes can be toxic, and a Potato boiled without its skin loses one third to one half of its goodness in the water.

Saturn's Day: the Day of Manifestation and Structure, Assessment and Responsibility......

Nutmeg - Nutmeg is the seed of the fruit of the Nutmeg tree: the outer covering of this fruit is Mace which is also used as a spice. Nutmeg and Mace actually have the same properties although it is the seed which is more often used.  Nutmeg is used to soothe the digestive system, reducing nausea, vomiting and flatulence, although too much can act as an emetic. It is often grated and sprinkled onto warm drinks for those recovering from illness. Grated Nutmeg added to ointment is very effective for piles. Nutmeg oil is used externally to warm and stimulate, and is of some benefit in relieving deep-seated aches and pains.
Magically Nutmeg is taken, usually in a warm drink, to enhance psychic powers, as an aid to divination and when taking otherworld journeys.  It has the effect of loosening the hold of the conscious mind and added to incense which is burned during readings.  A necklace made of Nutmegs, interlaced with other herbs, such as Juniper berries, Star Anise and Cardamoms is sometimes worn when undertaking psychic readings. Whole Nutmegs are carried as good luck charms and often placed under the cot of an infant to protect it. It is said that carrying a Nutmeg protects against rheumatism and boils. They are also pierced and threaded to make a charm against cold sores, sties and dental pain. To bring money roll a green candle in freshly grated Nutmeg so that it sticks to the surface, and burn it on a Friday.

Moon in Gemini - The Moon in Gemini wakes us up; we lose our concentration but quicken our communication. The conversation sparkles, our thinking broadens but doesn't deepen. This transit is a time to network, investigate, translate, brainstorm, meditate, edit, explain and broadcast. The Moon in Gemini quickens our nervous system.  Build a web of understanding and absorb new information. This is a time communication and other means of expression, freedom, adaptability, reading or writing, desires for variety and having more than one thing going at once. You may feel talkative. All communications are easier during a Gemini transit. We can be more adaptable and changeable but you should take all statements with a grain of salt, especially when dealing with those who have proven fickle in the past. It's a hard time to make any decisions, but a good time to use your wit and cleverness in conversation. Issues of the practical world are set aside. Towards the end of this transit (late Sunday nite), when the moon approaches the sign of Cancer, interactions and communications become more emotional. Moon in Gemini is the best time to work magick for good communication, change of residence, writing, public relations and travel. Healing rituals for ailments of the shoulders, arms, hands or lungs are also done during this period of time.  Those who born under a Gemini Moon sign can talk to anyone, think fast, multi-task, shift moods with grace, but need to choose depth and focus.

Freya's Day - Venus Day, Day of Sharing and Relationships....

Apple Ring

Apples are key part of the Samhain season, which is occasionally called the Apple Sabbat. The five pointed star found in the cross section is also a symbol of the Craft. They have long tradition of being used in love divination and celebratory at this time. Apples are frequently placed on the altar at this time, whether whole or in part. They are sometimes used as a substitute for the biscuits and rough Cider in place of wine, in the Rite of Wine, Cakes and Cider.
One of the ways of producing a long-term reminder of the season is to create a dried Apple Ring. You will need to slice several apples across the core to create sufficient equal-sized apple rings. Place the slices on kitchen paper (parchment paper) and put into a very low, barely warm oven, until they have completely dried out. If the oven is too warm they may curl, but this can be rectified if you put them under a heavy weight for a day or so. As they dry the apple slices will darken, becoming quite brown, but if you prefer a paler ring then paint both sides of each slice with lemon juice as soon as they have been cut.  Once your slices are completely dry and flat, arrange and glue them into a ring. This should be placed in a warm dark place, again under weights, for a further few days to ensure it has fully dried. At this point it can, if you wish, be varnished. Your Apple Ring can then be decorated and hung by a ribbon if you wish.

Moon in Taurus - The Moon in Taurus grounds us; it slows us down andn wakes our sensual nature and stubbornness, helps us dig deeper roots.  We can almost feel the mud oozing between our toes, awakening senses and sensuality and growing our stubbornness. It is time to cultivate our natural resources, our homes and our body. This lunar transit concerns money, work, property, the body, home and family, sensuality, building cautiously and slowly, being conscientious, growth, sensitivity and emotional patterns based on security. The forceful forward ot Aries becomes molid, calm and patient during Taurus. The energy flow is even and a time for us to experience the sensual. There is a desire to protect material goods and a strong need for financial security. Taurus gives attention to order and detail. Emotionally there is stubbornness, but great sensitivity to others. Moon in Taurus is the best time to work magick for love, real estate, material acquistions, and money. Healing rituals for ailments of the throat, neck, and ears are also done during this period of time. Those born under a Taurus moon sign roots deeply and changes slowly; they collect, touch, support and see the sacred in the world of matter. They can loan their strength to others, but may need to learn the beauty to change.

Moon Day - the Day of Remembering and Feeling....  there are minor magickal energies for household harmony and patience.

The Raven - The Raven is the largest member of the Crow family, being some 25 inches in length. It is all black including the beak. It has long been considered a bird of magick and omens. Probably the most notable story concerns the Ravens at the Tower of London, about which is is said that should they be lost or fly away then Britain and the Royal family will fall.  These days their wings are clipped to prevent them from leaving!  The Native Americans call the Raven 'the messenger of death', and they believe that it can scent death and will arrive whenever it is imminent. It used to be thought that to hear a Raven calling over the house that one of the inhabitants would soon fall ill. Indeed its call is said to be, 'corpse, corpse'.  Ravens seen facing towards a clouded Sun indicate that hot weather is on the way, but if seen preening then weather will be wet. Seen flying towards one another they are said to presage battle.
The Raven is sacred to the Celtic Battle Goddess the Morrighan. It was said that she would watch over the field of war in the guise of a Raven, waiting to feed on the bodies of the fallen. The Raven was also thought to be a messenger for the Morrighan, and as such was under her protection. Should anyone kill a Raven it was thought that She would visit destruction on their household. The Celtic Goddess Natosuelta was a Raven Goddess of Gaul, and was both Creator and Destroyer of the World.

Gibbous Moon  - The moon is now 8 - 14 days old from the New Moon and it is 135-180 degrees ahead of the Sun. This is the time for patience and for drawing up energy for the coming Full Moon.
The Gibbous Moon rises midafternoon and sets before dawn. She is the bulging Moon getting ready to be full, visible soon after she rises until she sets. The Gibbous Moon is the BUD of the lunar plant, the pulse of life tightly wrapped, wanting to expand. Keywords for the Gibbous phase are: analyze, prepare, and trust. It is the time in a lunar cycle to process the results of the actions taken during the First Quarter. During this phase you are gathering information. Give up making judgments. It will only lead to worry. Your knowledge is incomplete. Laugh. Analyze and filter. LOOK WITHIN.  For those born in a Gibbous Moon phase their talents lie in the ability to refine, organize and purify. They are seekers, utilizing spiritual tools as guides on their path.

Moon in Aries - The Moon in Aries lights a fire under our tails; it wakes us up and strips away our complications and our patience. We can make a fresh start but tend to shoot from the hip, move fast, argue quickly. This transit is a time to initiate, speak up and honor independence. The Moon in Aries asks to wake up and remember who we are even if it bothers those we love or work. Tempers, tears and passions run hot. Moon in Aries is a time of new beginnings, intense activity, pioneering in any field, reaching out with emotional surges, and impulsiveness. This moon is the great tester of limits. While the Moon is in Aries you may want to depend on yourself, as there is also a certain amount of ego involvement. The Aries Moon is based in impulsiveness and acting on feelings of the moment, rather than the result of reason. Sometimes snap decisions are made - later to be regretted. Selfishness could be an issue, so be extra sensitive to others. Moon in Aries is the best time to work magick involving leadership, authority, rebirth, spiritual conversion or willpower.  Healing rituals for ailments of the face, head or brain are also done during this period of time. For those born under an Aries Moon sign they are passionate, honest, and fierce, big-hearted but intensely self-directed. They are happy to loan their fire to inspire others, just don't tell them what to do.

Sun Day - this is the Day of Intent, Creation and Renewal... there are Major magickal energies for Beginnings and Changes.

Moon in Pisces - The Moon in Pisces reveal our permeability. We dream, and need to ground our dreams. We care, but can become overwhelmed by our awareness unless we feel spirit working though us. This transit is a time to image, share, sense, meditate, nurture, soak and find constructive ways to be sensitive. With the Moon in Pisces we feel the world with compassion, heightened senses and strong imagination. We need quiet time in the temple or back under our covers to deal with sensory overload. A time to vision, listen to inner voices, allow creative juices to flow and touch each other with new awareness. During a Pisces transit emotional life is more introverted, intuition is at its height and psychic energy is powerful. You are  ow able to get in touch with your deepest self, but it can also be a time of vagueness, unclarity and uncertainty. A Pisces transit is a time when you notice a moodiness in others around you, yet it's also an opportunity to fully appreciate art and beauty.
Many women have a good cry during Moon in Pisces, washing away troubles.  Or you can be the compassionate friend for a sister who needs to share her troubles. We cry during Moon in Pisces because it's the most watery of all signs. Pisces Moon brings a retreat into the self to do the internal processing and contemplation necessary at least once during a lunar cycle. The outer world  busyness; becomes fuzzy and cold hard facts slide through your fingers like slippery fish. Things are not what they seem, so don't be confused by this transit. Moon in Pisces is the best time to work magick involving dreamwork, clairvoyance, telepathy, music and the creative arts. Healing rituals for ailments of the feet or lymph glands are also done at this time. The Moon's placement at our birth describes our relation ton our home, and, family and emotional lineage; it symbolizes our inner spiritual river and our lifetime mode of operation. For those born under a Pisces Moon, they have extra perceptions, and need to build up strength (not defense) to match. They are sensitive, intuitive, responsive and compassionate; their dreams are a gift.

First Quarter Moon - The moon has aged 6 to 7 days and is 90-135 degrees ahead of the Sun, it rises at noon and sets at midnight. Sunrise is the prime time for the waxing Moon. From the time a new moon is sighted, until it reaches the height of it's power as a full moon, the cycle is known as waxing moon. The lunar power constantly increases during this time and as such it's an ideal time to cast a spell requiring the fulfilment of a request. The waxing moon is for constructive magick such as love, wealth, success, courage, friendship, luck or health.  Astrologically the Moon is square to the Sun. She is visible from the time she rises until sets. The First Quarter Moon is the GROWTH phase of the lunar plant. Roots go deeper, stems shoot up and leaves form as she creates a new strong body. Those born in a first quarter phase live a full active life - old structures are cleared away providing room for new development. Keywords for the First Quarter phase are: action, expression, growth and breaking away.
It is the time in a cycle to take the initial action necessary to achieve your goal by expressing your needs and desires. FEEL & MOVE. Make phone calls. Write letters. Dance. Act now.

Thor's Day - Jupiter Day - the Day of Vision, Spiritual Insight and Expansion ....  There are Major magickal energies for Networking and  minor magickal energies for good luck.

The Dark Mirror - The true Dark Mirror is made by coating the back of a curved glass, such as is found on the front of old-fashioned mantle clocks, with soot.
The resulting black shiny surface is then used for scrying. However, this is extremely messy and requires an open fire. A similar version can be made by applying black paint to the back of a glass, and many of the Dark Mirrors sold today are made in this way. The more natural way is to fill a bowl with water and add black ink to create a pool of blackness, similar to that created by a deep pond at night. This latter is more probably the form used by our ancestors. One of the most famous Dark Mirrors was owned by Dr. John Dee, court magician to Queen Elizabeth I. This is made from highly polished Obsidian, and can be seen in the British Museum. Dee used this not only fro scrying, but also to summon spirits which he claimed appeared in its surface and spoke to him.
Dark Mirrors are used in much the same way as the Crystal Ball. Sitting before it, you have to unfocus your conscious mind and allow the subconscious to take over. some Witches see images in the surface or, more often, just under it. Others find the images and/or words simply appear in their mind. Often it helps to work by candlelight, or to have candlelight reflected in the surface.

Moon in Aquarius - The Moon in Aquarius connects us to our community, reminds us that we are in this together. It asks us to make sure we walk our talk and integrate our philosophy with our politics. We abstract, communicate and work the crowd, but may be less intimate. The Moon in Aquarius expands our circles and offers the magic of collaboration: spirit and politics weave together. We can get farsighted now and need to stay aware of others' feelings. Let go of assumptions and find new, unusual allies. This is a transit dealing with facts, organizing, political issues, desire to save the world through social action, connecting with others in social situations, scientific pursuits, detachment and the need to come and go without restriction.
Aquarius Moon's monthly transit is a dramatic mood change. Where Capricorn values tradition and caution, Aquarius indicates anything new, innovative, different or unconventional. Extremes of behavior occur during this moon, especially extremes of optimism and pessimism. We may feel the need to be friendly and social but don't want to be too personal or go too deep. Aquarius Moon can bring us the feelings of wanting to be detached or rational rather than emotional, and will change only if it's logical to do so. Moon in Aquarius is the best time to work magick involving science, freedom, creative expression, problem-solving, extrasensory abilities, friendship, and the breaking of bad habits or unhealthy addictions. Healing rituals for ailments of the calves, ankles, or blood are also done this time, Those born under an Aquarius Moon sign are far sighted with a gentle stubbornness; they understand group dynamics and may be more aware in family, tribe, community than they are in their most intimate relations.

Tiu's Day - Mars Day - the Day of Activity and Physicality, Passion and Desire - Action Day

Samhain -

Yes, this is actually Samhain Day - yesterday was the celebration of Samhain Eve.  As the last of the Autumn leaves were falling and the harvest gathered in the people would prepare for the storms of Winter.  At this time the land starts to become bare of the colors of life. In your garden you need to be clearing away dead leaves, and cutting back plants for Winter. Protect or bring in delicate plants before the real chill sets in, and remove any remaining fruit before the first storms. Houseplants should not be too close to windows as at this time of the year they can easily chill. Consider feeding birds and wildlife, so long as you are sure you will continue to do so throughout the coming winter.
Wrap up warmly and take yourself out into the woods to notice the changes around you. Take some dried fruit and a little cider or wine as an offering. Seek out the oldest tree you can find (almost certainly the one with the widest trunk) and make your offering to the land. Then sit beneath it with your back to the trunk for a while. Close your eyes and visualize all the seasonal changes of Spring, Summer and Autumn which have led to this point. Then recall all the things in your life which have likewise started, grown and come to fruition this year. In your mind see the Goddess as the Wise One and the God as Hunter walking through the woods, and thank them for all that has come to you. When you are ready, open your eyes and seek out a token of the season to take home with you.
