February 10th, 2010

So, here is the snow again and still coming down - don't think there will be any travelling today.  There are minor magickal energies today for Working in my Book of Shadows and rites to defend against psychic attack.  This could be a day for working in the BOS and that is one of my goals for this current lunar cycle.  I finally think I am pulling together a format for how I want my BOS to be like and for now it is mostly centering around Sabbats and esbbats...   For now I am still collecting information and ideas for Imbolc - information on Brigid and crafts that can express the season.  I am tired of every Sabbat going and searching for ideas. I now realize that I need to record the ideas I like and may want to do next time or sometime in the future and placing it in a BOS is a good way of keeping the information near to hand even if I don't have access to the internet.  You never know what can happen.
This book will have both handwritten material and pasted in printed information and there is a lot of images being put in it.

This is Woden's Day (Wednesday), the day of Communication and Connection.... so it will have good energies for working on a BOS.  Here is a little spell for Wednesday - Athema's Spell-Writing Charm - that I found in Ellen Dugan's book "Book of Witchey" which is about spells, charms & correspondences for every day of the week.
Athena is a deity corresponding to this day of the week - Athena is a warrior/maiden goddess of wisdom, war, crafts, and poetry. She often depicted with an owl perched on her shoulder, symbolizing wisdom. There is some debate on her origin's - some stories say she sprang from Zeus's head fully grown and ready to fight. Another school of thought believes that she may have been originally a Mycenaen goddess of home and hearth...  I tend to believe that myth more.  Athena was called 'bright-eyed' and was a patroness of women's rights and freedom. She also presided over craftsman, potters, weavers and spinners. And to round things up, Athena is also associated with writing, music, wisdom, justice, and peace.  This one of the reasons one of her symbols is the owl and another symbol she has is the olive tree.

So for this Athena spell - you light a purple candle for Athena and a white candle for peace. Now sit before the candles and concentrate on what variety of spell you would like to write. Close your eyes for a few moments to center yourself. Now repeat the following spell three times:

"Computer and printer, ink pens and paper
Send me inspiration sooner than later
Athena blesses me under Wednesday-night sky
I can create my own spells, now let my magick fly
Using a bit of Wednesday's witchery
As I do will it, so mote it be!"

Close things up by writing your own spell or charm. (In my case, I will be writing in my BOS) If you'd like to add a little herbal magick to this spell, add some lavendar for transformation. It will help to transform your ideas into reality. Check your spice rack and make use of some dill for good luck. Most of all, just have fun. Don't be afraid to try writing your own spells.

Ah, we're well on our way to being snowbound. Took off work today, and sure am glad.
