December 9th, 2009

I am noticing something this morning when looking at the sunrise and sunset times for next week or so - the Sun will be setting at the same time - 4:51PM EST - for the next six days and then on December 16th will be setting one minute later.  In fact as I look more closely - I see the sun has been setting at this time for the past seven days.... That means that the beginning of the light increasing is already very
close to be happening....   Of course the time of the Sunrise is still getting later and leter in the morning but by December 22nd that too will change by one minute.  So we are reaching the end of the reign of darkness.

   Preparation for Visualization:

When undertaking a visualization exercise there are several things to bear in mind, particularly if you are a beginner. First, be patient with yourself, very few of us achieve spectacular results the first time we undertake a guided inner journey, and most of us drift off or lose concentration until we become more experienced. All that is needed is practice, patience and more practice.

You will need a quiet place where you will be undisturbed for the duration of your journey - up to 30 minutes. You also need to relax, concentraqting on slowing your breathing, relaxing your muscles, and finding a position in which you will be comfortable. Relaxed positioning is a prerequisite to any type of magical, spiritua, or circle work, so it is a good idea to practice this.

How to Prepare for Visualization:

  1. Close your eyes. Take three deep breaths, breating in calm and breathing out stress, anxieties and distracting thoughts.
  2. The next seven breaths draw evergy from the ground below you and the Earth below that, up through an imaginary column running through the center of your body.
  3. The first breath light up the energy point or chakra at the base of your spine, which is a red light or flower. The second lights the sacral chakra (below the belly button), which is orange. The third breath activates the solar plexus chakra which is yellow; the fourth the heart chakra which is green; the fifth the throat chakra which is blue; and the sixth the third eye chakra (forehead which is violet.
  4. The seventh breath opens the crown chakra of pure white light. All it to shower over you and connect back with the Earth energy upon which you are drawing.
  5. Visualize a circle of white light all around you. This creates sacred space between everyday world and the inner world to which you are journeying.
  6. When your visualization is over and you have made notes, close down the circle and the energy centers you have activated, leaving the base of your spine chakra, and crown chakra open just a little. Neglecting to close down can leave you-sensitized and vulnerable to other people's negative energies.
  7. Eat and drink something to ground yourself - this is important!

Color Correspondences:
Colors- bright or dark, deep or light, regardless of whether it's a royal blue or a brilliant yellow, color affects us.

It's a proven fact that colors have an affect on our intellect, and they invoke different emotional responses. Colors used in magick are similar in that they evoke a response, but keep in mind, response to color in an individual matter, so go with your instincts. The colors must have meaning to you.
The magick of colors can be used in many different ways, and the use of colors in magick is only limited to what you want to use the color for.
Colors in magic, witchcraft, and Wicca can represent energy, an objective or target, people, animals, gods, godesses, spiritual or natural forces. Colors also have the ability to carry, store, and transmit personal or emotional meanings or representational feelings. Colours are an important and integral part of our lives and hold great power both internally and externally.

So lets start exploring some of the colors in our world.  A dominant one now a days in this early winter season is brown.....
Brown, and all shades of it, has long been a color associated with those who are poor and who work on the land. These people would not have had the resources or inclination to spend money on fancy colors for workday clothing. It was worn by those who eschewed  wealth and worldly success. It indicates a desire for links with nature and the land. Brown is the color of the Earth, and in some systems brown candles are burnt, instead of green, to invoke this Element. Brown candles are also used in healing spells for animals and other living things.
Brown stones such as Agate, Jasper, and Tiger's Eye used to be worn for protection and victory in battle. They were also worn or carried as a wealth talisman, often engraved with symbols of success. Brown stones are also very good for grounding and centering and to re-balance the energies after magical workings. Brown robes are often favored by Witches who work a lot of earth-healing magic and by those who practice Hedge-Witchcraft.  It is also a very useful color for outdoor workings, showing little dirt as well as blending easily into the background. Brown is a color which should be worn nby anyone who customarily has their 'head in the clouds.'  It is particularly useful for those who are habitually clumsy or badly co-ordinated. Although considered by some to be a bland or dull color, some of the richer shades are particularly useful if you are feeling stressed or overanxious. Create a circular swirling npattern of shades of brown finger paints when you need to recharge your batteries.
